Khabib Nurmagomedov's grudge match against Conor McGregor at UFC 229 remains the highest-selling pay-per-view in UFC history. Joe Rogan, who was a part of the broadcast team on the night, recently revisited the bout with David Goggins.

Speaking on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator reminisced about the UFC 229 headliner. Discussing how Conor McGregor's trash talk leading into the fight drew the ire of Khabib Nurmagomedov inside the cage, Rogan said:

"When he fought Conor McGregor and they were booing him at the weigh-ins and he goes, 'I'm gonna smash your boy!' And that's what he did. He was on top of him pounding him going, 'Let's talk now!' Because Conor talked a lot. He's on top of him punching him in the face, he goes, 'Let's talk, let's talk now!' Beating the f**k out of him."

Goggins, a triathlete and former Navy SEAL, reacted:

"Jesus, dude. He brought that s**t to another level, man. He took no f**king mental aid stations in that training camp."

Khabib Nurmagomedov went on to win via fourth-round submission to retain his lightweight strap. Nevertheless, the bad blood between the Russian and Conor McGregor lives on to this day.

Conor McGregor calls out Joe Rogan's commentary in Khabib Nurmagomedov grudge match

Conor McGregor recently took to Twitter to live tweet as he re-watched his UFC 229 bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov. The former double champion first shared footage of himself landing a knee on Nurmagomedov's head while grounded. UFC commentator Joe Rogan can be heard calling the knee illegal.

McGregor didn't take kindly to Rogan's commentary, as within seconds of his original tweet, the Irishman tweeted a voice recording, mocking the longtime commentator:

"'That was an illegal knee on the head of a grounded opponent.' Shut up Joe, you little fool. What are you talking about? ‘Smash this and smash that?' I was smashing my knee into his f**king eye socket, yeah? 'That’s a knee to a grounded opponent, call the cops.'"

Following UFC 229, Nurmagomedov defended his belt two more times before retiring with a perfect 29-0 record. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame earlier this year. Meanwhile, McGregor has lost two of three fights since then, and has been inactive for nearly 18 months.

UFC president Dana White recently hinted at a potential fight between McGregor and Michael Chandler in 2023.
