MMA fans may be left disappointed and frustrated at the outcome of last week’s ONE on Prime Video 3 main event between John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade. Still, hearing Lineker’s side of the mishap, the result becomes more understandable.

The seconds ticked away as John Lineker writhed in pain on the ground, and those in attendance and watching on Amazon Prime waited for the pain to pass so the fight could continue.

Instead, the referee ruled the fight as a no-contest, with the ONE bantamweight world title remaining vacant. Big fights that lack resolution are always disappointing, but the groin shot that took John Lineker out was no joke.

In an interview with the promotion, Lineker said:

“The pain was unbearable. I thought it would never stop hurting. In addition to the pain, I couldn't breathe properly. I was quite scared of the pain. My cup broke. It wasn't just the impact, the blow went through the cup. It took all my strength and my momentum. I already did some tests and, thank God, it was nothing serious. I'm still feeling a little pain, I was even afraid to go to the bathroom afterward. But, according to the doctors' assessment, everything is fine with me”.

A clean bill from the doctor is good news not only for the Linekers but also for fans hoping to see the world title fight rebooked soon. The fact that the pain lingered well after the fight’s conclusion sheds some light on the magnitude of the blow. The action-packed main event delivered while it lasted, even with the title only on the line for Andrade.

The no-contest result may be a blessing in disguise for the former world champion, who could potentially regain the belt through a rematch.

John Lineker blames the scales for losing the belt, eager for a rematch

Controversy had already marred the ONE on Prime Video 3 main event before the fight started, with Lineker missing weight. The narrow miss, only .75 lbs, saw John Lineker being stripped of the belt with 20% of his fight purse going to Andrade as well.

According to Lineker, the biggest loss of the weekend was this slip-up. In an interview with ONE Championship, he said:

“I really want to get this belt back. I didn't lose the title to an opponent, but to the scales. This belt is actually mine. I remain the champion. I can't wait to fight for the belt again.”

Lineker awaits news of a rematch with Fabricio Andrade. According to the official rankings released this week, Andrade is now the number one contender, with Lineker sitting at number two.

All of the drama has created one of the biggest rivalries in ONE Championship, and when the fight is re-booked, the stakes will be even higher.
