Jon Anik recently voiced his confidence regarding the potential fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. Anik claimed that despite Jones' prior claims of a superfight with Alex Pereira, he did not see the promotion scheduling a matchup.
Prior to successfully defending his heavyweight title against former champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 earlier this month, Jones repeatedly dismissed facing Aspinall and instead expressed his desire to face Pereira, which he believed would be more significant to his legacy.
The reigning champion even hinted at retiring if the UFC executives did not organize a fight between him and the Brazilian, putting UFC CEO Dana White in a difficult position.
However, Anik recently spoke to MMA Junkie and gave his take on Aspinall's potential matchup with Jones, pointing out that there is good news regarding the heavyweight title unification bout.
''I have no inside information. I truly don’t. You can call it informed speculation. … But I do believe that fight is going to happen...This is the fight. Even though Jon Jones isn’t the natural heavyweight in body that Tom Aspinall is, he’s not going to fight Alex Pereira right now. He’s going to fight Tom Aspinall.''
Anik also discussed Jones' remark during the UFC 309 post-fight press conference, where the latter asked for a huge payday in order to face Aspinall.
''It just comes down to what Jon Jones’ number is. What is Jon Jones’ net worth? What number is he looking for? Is it 25 million (dollars) to show?...I feel like the company is in a great position to make this fight, and I think you’ve got to do Las Vegas. You’ve got to do International Fight Week 2025.”

Jon Anik speculates Jon Jones' future if he loses to Tom Aspinall
Jon Anik was optimistic about the heavyweight contest between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. However, he also talked about Jones' future if he loses to Aspinall.
In the aforementioned interview with MMA Junkie, Anik stated that Jones will not return to the octagon if he loses to Aspinall, which is why he is seeking a massive fight purse to face the interim champion.
''Tom Aspinall could knock Jon Jones out in a minute and I don't think it's legacy diminishing whatsoever but you better make $30 million because then at that point in time maybe Jon Jones doesn't want to have another training camp and rematch Tom Aspinall or have two or three more fights.'' [10:45]
