Jorge Masvidal's return to the octagon will come against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 on April 8th.

While UFC President Dana White has already claimed that Colby Covington will receive the next welterweight title shot, 'Gamebred' believes his performance will earn him that opportunity.

While speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, the No.11-ranked welterweight stated:

"I love Dana, but Dana says a lot of things. History says one thing - whoever makes the most noise when they fight, whoever f**king sells the most pay-per-views and whoever fans want to see at the end of the day - that's who'll get the title shot. On top of that, as I recall, champions have always called the shots."

Jorge Masvidal continued:

"Colby is only a champion of calling the cops that c**k s**king b**ch, p**sy a** motherf**ker. I'm just going to continue to do me. I'm going to go out there and break f**king Gilbert's face and then Leon's going to call my name out and then I'm going to go fight Leon for this belt and that's it. Colby can just sit in the timeout box until I call his a** up to fight me again."

While Dana White has suggested Colby Covington is next in line for a welterweight title opportunity, current champion Leon Edwards has hinted that he may refuse to sign the contract. 'Rocky' has also suggested that he may be in attendance at UFC 287. The No.4-ranked pound-for-pound fighter has a history with Masvidal that dates back to 2019.

Jorge Masvidal's return: 'Gamebred' claims his 'Van Gogh' is coming against Gilbert Burns

Jorge Masvidal will face Gilbert Burns in a co-main event bout at UFC 287 that could have huge implications on the welterweight title picture.

'Gamebred' recently shared that he is looking to paint his masterpiece against the No.5-ranked welterweight, stating:

"I know he's good in the jiu-jitsu world, but his wrestling ain't that and I've only been focusing these last six months on making sure that I could deal with these wrestlers efficiently, get to positions efficiently, not waste as much energy."
"I'm going to tell you that I'm going to paint my Van Gogh on Gilbert's face with elbows, knees, kicks, takedown defense, takedown offense."

Masvidal has the fastest and one of the most memorable knockouts in UFC history, so painting his masterpiece will be a tough task. The No.11-ranked welterweight is looking to put on a dominant performance to solidify his opportunity to face longtime rival Leon Edwards for the title.
