Harrison, a former judoka turned MMA fighter made her UFC debut this year, defeating former UFC women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm in a dominant performance.
She is now preparing for her next fight against Ketlen Vieira at UFC 307. The event will also feature a light heavyweight championship fight between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree.
Kayla Harrison believes Julianna Peña is avoiding a potential fight with her
Kayla Harrison believes that Julianna Peña is attempting to avoid a fight with her by calling for a trilogy bout with Amanda Nunes. Harrison is set to face Ketlen Vieira at UFC 307, with a potential title shot on the line. However, Raquel Pennington will defend the bantamweight belt against Peña at the same event.
Peña has expressed interest in fighting Harrison, but Harrison is concerned that Peña's tendency to take long breaks between fights could hinder her title chase. In an interview with Shak MMA, Harrison stated:
"I think that Julianna, if she wins this fight against Raquel, is probably gonna try to be inactive and push to have Amanda come back. She's trying to avoid the inevitable, I wouldn't want to fight me either, I get it."
Harrison also criticized Peña's recent record, pointing out that she has not defeated a top-15 ranked opponent since her loss to Amanda Nunes in 2021:
"What has she been doing? She’s had two years off, coming off a loss. Now she’s going to fight for the title and she’s been blessed with this gift."[ BJPenn]
