Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman at UFC 286

Leon Edwards defeated Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 286 in London on Saturday night, thereby defending his welterweight title for the first time. He also made history by becoming the second British UFC champion to defend their title on home soil, the first being Michael Bisping in 2016.

Edwards was awarded a majority decision victory to close the chapter on his rivalry with Usman.

The judges scored the contest 48-46, 48-46, and 47-47 in 'Rocky's' favor.

The fight was competitive to the eye as well as statistically, but Edwards was the clear victor.

'Rocky' outlanded Usman by 10 strikes in total. He connected with 123 of 164 attempts, while Usman landed 113 of 232 strikes. Of Edwards' 123 strikes, 120 were significant strikes, compared to the former champion's total of 87.

Furthermore, Leon Edwards landed thunderous leg kicks throughout the fight and outstruck Kamaru Usman in four of the five rounds.

The champion landed 50 leg strikes in total, along with 36 body strikes and 34 head strikes. 'The Nigerian Nightmare', by comparison, landed six leg strikes, 24 body strikes, and 57 head strikes.

Usman's grappling-heavy approach, which was extremely successful in their previous fight at UFC 278, was nullified by 'Rocky' for much of their latest encounter. The former champion completed four takedowns from 15 attempts and accumulated slightly over five minutes of control time in the bout.

Leon Edwards responds to Dana White saying Colby Covington will face him next

Leon Edwards defeated Kamaru Usman via majority decision at UFC 286 this weekend.

Colby Covington's surprise appearance at the official weigh-ins as the back-up fighter for the main event has led to speculation that he could be next in line for a title shot.

The rumors were confirmed at the post-event press conference when UFC president Dana White stated that Covington would face 'Rocky' next:

"Colby came here, cut weight, did everything to be here for the fight. He deserves the fight [against Edwards]."

Leon Edwards responded to White's comments when he appeared at the press conference. He stated that 'Chaos' needs to prove that he deserves a shot at the title:

"[Colby] hasn't fought for over a year-and-a-half. [He] sat out, not injured. I don't get how he just slides in for the world title shot when there's other guys in the division that have been active."
