Joe Rogan and Joaquin Buckley recently revisited 'New Mansa's iconic knockout of Impa Kasanganay. In the second round of their UFC middleweight matchup back in October 2020, Buckley landed a left body kick that was caught by Kasanganay.

Rather than getting discouraged by having his kick get caught, the agile Buckley used Kasanganay's hold to propel himself into the air, turn, and strike Kasanganay's head with a thunderous spinning back kick. The fight ended via a second-round KO, with the finishing sequence being immortalized in MMA history.

Ahead of his upcoming fight, UFC middleweight Joaquin Buckley spoke with Joe Rogan regarding several topics on the latter's JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) podcast. The UFC commentator lauded Buckley for landing one of the greatest KOs ever. Rogan stated:

"Yours was crazy because he's holding one foot and [you] jump spinning back kick him in the face with the other foot. I mean, that is just wild."

Joe Rogan proceeded to ask whether Joaquin Buckley had ever executed the aforementioned maneuver in a fight before. Buckley responded by saying:

"Nah, so, that was my first time. So, if you wanna really hear it, man, it's a long story with it because nobody taught me that kick. I never had an instructor [who taught me that]. I was just fascinated with martial arts since I was a little kid."

Joaquin Buckley revealed that he only learned basic fighting techniques from the MMA gym he started training at, but he broadened his horizons by watching YouTube videos on traditional martial arts techniques. This included learning moves from Taekwondo, Hapkido, Kyokushin, and Sanshou (Sanda).

Buckley emphasized that he drew inspiration from Rogan's classic spinning back kick instructional video with MMA great Georges St-Pierre. Buckley and Rogan praised actor/martial artist Michael Jai White and kickboxing greats such as Raymond Daniels, Bill 'Superfoot' Wallace, and Peter 'Sugarfoot' Cunningham for their exceptional kicking prowess.

When Joe Rogan helped Georges St-Pierre with his kicking technique

Back in 2011, former Taekwondo athlete Joe Rogan helped UFC legend Georges St-Pierre with his spinning back kick technique. Their training video went viral and is often cited as an example of Rogan's masterful kicking skills and Taekwondo knowledge.

The MMA personality and UFC commentator explained that St-Pierre ought to maintain his kick's trajectory and the rest of his body in a straight line rather than diverting it upwards. Rogan said:

"What you're doing wrong is your knee is low and as you're kicking, you're going up. In going up, you lose a lot of the energy."
