UFC president Dana White's latest venture, the Power Slap League, concluded its very first season after an eight-week run. The league also featured former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin as an official headcatcher during the contests.

Griffin was tasked with literally catching heads as the competitors fell from the impact of their opponents' slaps. Griffin's role did not resonate with fans, however, and they took to Twitter to express their angst.

A fan posted:

"For those who don't watch Power Slap, former UFC champ and half of the pair who famously launched UFC into the mainstream Forrest Griffin is now reduced to catching knocked out slappers before they bash their heads on the ground"

Another wrote:

"He's not even a ref"

However, the majority of fans argued against the sentiment that Forrest Griffin had an insignificant role in the new league:

"Yep, Forrest is out there with a paying job.. what’s your point? That’s Dana looking after his OG’s years afterwards. Others have found higher callings sure but at least Forrest is still living life. Let him be and fine another angle"

Another added:

"Most ppl would probably want that job vs the one they have now, he’s literally just watching ppl get slapped and getting payed for it lol"

One user wrote:

"Reduced? The Nevada Atheletic Commission requires safety measures he is helping with, while also acting as Vice President of Athlete Development at the UFC Performance Institute..."

Others also used sarcasm to make their point:

"Why don’t they have giant pillows for them to land on instead? Or would that not look alpha?"

Dana White defends the Power Slap League, argues that its changing competitors' lives

The Power Slap League has come under massive criticism from fans for being an unnecessarily hazardous sport.

UFC president Dana White has had to fend off criticism since the launch and continued his efforts after its conclusion. He mentioned the amount of money some competitors made and argued that it was life-changing for them.

White said:

"First of all, these are all grown men and women who make their own decisions on wanting to compete in this sport. Number two, these guys are changing their families' lives. Some of these guys... yeah, [they're] gonna walk out of here with $45,000... Some of these guys probably don't make $45,000 a year, they made it in one night."

Power Slap also garnered underwhelming viewership numbers and largely did not appear to substantiate White's arguments regarding the hype behind the league.
