'Tarzan' has shown emotion when discussing his father and admitted to still having very vivid memories of negative moments from his childhood.
In his latest appearance on The Sitdown, Strickland recalled a memory from his childhood, explaining how his home life would significantly affect his ability to do well in school. The former UFC middleweight champion mentioned that he still vividly remembers being fearful of his mother's life as his father would always scream at her at all hours of the night. He said:
"I would stay up until like, 3:00 in the morning... I would always want to sleep in their room because I always thought my dad was going to kill my mom... I'm this little kid who loves his mom, who thinks his mom is going to die. So like, to me, it's like I think as a kid like, 'My mom is going to die tomorrow'. And this happened more than once, where I'd go hide under the bed."
