Serghei Spivac doesn't want to make a big deal out of first main event opportunity against Derrick Lewis

Serghei Spivac is gearing up for his maiden main event opportunity against Derrick Lewis at UFC Vegas 68. Spivac, ranked No.12 in the heavyweight division, is currently on a two-fight winning streak and a victory over the organization's record holder for most knockout victories will help him break into the top 10 of the division.

Spivac was originally slated to face Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC Vegas 65 on November 19 last year. However, Lewis was forced to withdraw from the event owing to a non-COVID, non-weight cutting illness, and the fight was subsequently canceled.

Every UFC fighter longs for the opportunity to headline a UFC card. While other fighters fold under the pressure of being the main attraction, Serghei Spivac prefers to play down the significance of his next bout. Speaking ahead of his fight against Derrick Lewis on UFC.com, Spivac stated:

“It doesn’t mean much at all. This is just the next fight that I must win.”

Spivac noted that while he recognizes the enormity of the occasion, he does not wish to make a big deal and detract attention from the immediate objective:

“Of course, you have to be a fool not to pay attention to the fact that you are the man on the marquee. I understand this means I’m taking specific steps to get somewhere, and that I’ve kind of made it to a certain place, but it has to continue to be ‘the next fight’ and something that I have to continue to achieve, as opposed to blowing it out of proportion and making it something bigger than it is.”

Serghei Spivac weighs in on how he predicts the fight against Derrick Lewis to play out

Serghei Spivac has a mammoth task in hand when he faces heavyweight knockout artist Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC Vegas 68.

Ever since he made his UFC debut back in 2019, Spivac has had a decent run, collecting victories over the likes of Tai Tuivasa, Alexey Oleynik, and Greg Hardy. Despite a stellar early run that saw him win his first nine fights, Spivac's transition to the UFC was a bit rocky.

Now that he has shifted his training camp to the Xtreme Couture facility in Las Vegas training alongside the best minds in the game, fans can a better version of Spivac come Saturday night. Previewing the fight in the aforementioned interview with UFC.com, he stated:

“I’m not an almighty to speak about what is going to happen on Saturday. But what I do know is that I trained hard and I made sure to do 100-percent preparation to go out there and get my victory on Saturday night.”
