First-ranked strawweight contender ‘The Monkey God’ Jarred Brooks is heading into his first ONE world title opportunity with a lot of confidence. Then again, the 32-year-old from Warsaw, Indiana, has always held himself in very high regard.

Speaking to The MMA Superfan in a recent interview ahead of his next fight, Brooks insited that he will beat Joshua Pacio and claim the strawweight throne, and then move up in weight to beat the rest of Team Lakay.

‘The Monkey God’ said:

“I can beat Danny Kingad and I can easily beat Kevin Belingon. They’re just not in the same realm as me as much in wrestling and jiu-jitsu. They’re great strikers, everyone of those guys are great strikers. But they’re not gonna be hanging with me when it goes to the ground and my type of prowess when I’m on top of them. They’ll be like, ‘Damn, who’s this little 125-er who feels like a 250-pound guy on top of me?’ I do believe that and I think I can beat their entire team.”

Of course, it will be easier said than done for Jarred Brooks, no matter how confident he is. Team Lakay has built a strong reputation of being world-class fighters capable of winning multiple world titles in combat sports. Don’t get it twisted, this will be one of Brooks’ toughest fights yet.

The number one strawweight in ONE Championship, ‘The Monkey God’ Jarred Brooks, will challenge Filipino star Joshua ‘The Passion’ Pacio for the ONE strawweight world title in the main event of ONE 164: Pacio vs. Brooks. The event takes place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, on Saturday, December 3.

In the same interview, Brooks reiterated that he looks to finish this fight early and come away with the coveted ONE gold.

'The Monkey God’ said:

“No fight is easy. Like I said, I want to get this done in the first round. In the first round is where I’m looking at. Nobody is going to take it away from me.”

ONE Championship returns to the Philippines for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Who will leave the Mall of Asia Arena with ONE Championship gold around his waist? It will all be decided in the circle on Saturday night
