Colby Covington issued a fierce call-out to Dustin Poirier after his UFC 272 victory against Jorge Masvidal. 'The Diamond' recently responded to the call-out, effectively ruling out a fight against 'Chaos'. He further claimed that a clash against Nate Diaz is more likely.

While in conversation with ESPN MMA's Heidi Androl at UFC Vegas 50, Poirier offered fans some insight into his next UFC fight. He admitted that Covington's decision to call him out confused him greatly.

Considering how unsure he was about his future as a welterweight or a lightweight, Poirier wondered how a fight against him would lead 'Chaos' to a title shot. When asked about his take on Covington's call-out, here's what Poirier had to say:

"It's working for him. He's got people talking. You're asking me about him, but it's just not my style. That's what I dislike about the sport nowadays." When asked about the Nate Diaz fight, he said, "Yeah, Nate Diaz is a fight I want, you know. I've been watching him [inaudible] forever. So it's exciting for me. The matchup would be fun for the fans. That's more likely than the [Colby Covington] fight."

Dustin Poirier features in A.J. Fletcher's corner at UFC Vegas 50

Dustin Poirier appeared alongside A.J. Fletcher as his cornerman at the UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Ankalaev event. With both fighters hailing from Lafayette, Poirier hoped to help Fletcher find his way to glory inside the octagon in his promotional debut.

However, it was not to be as 'The Ghost' suffered a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Matthew Semelsberger on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 50. The three judges scored the fight 29-28 in favor of 'Semi the Jedi'.

During the fight, Poirier was seen advising Fletcher on how to overcome the challenge presented by his 29-year-old opponent. ESPN MMA also posted footage of the same on their YouTube channel.

'The Diamond' is currently coming off a third-round submission loss at the hands of the UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
