Dana White's latest endeavor, the Power Slap League, is not for the faint-hearted, as evidenced by the arduous nature of the sport. While many consider the format to be barbaric, others have developed a taste for it, as evidenced by the sport's rising popularity.

White's recent physical altercation with his wife and slap fighting, in general, have generated a major backlash. However, TBS and Warner Media have started the broadcast of the Power Slap League after a small delay. The series follows AEW Dynamite and will be hosted at the UFC's APEX Center in Las Vegas. It is billed to be the greatest slap competition in history.

Several UFC stars have endorsed the sport, while others find it difficult to embrace the concept. Stefon Marsean Diggs, an NFL wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills, questioned whether the Power Slap League was a legitimate sport during a live reaction to the league's debut television broadcast:

"This is some crazy sh*t. They right here smacking the sh*t out of each other. Watch this right here. My God! This is some new sh*t on TV."

Diggs posted a series of Instagram stories reacting to the event and wrote:

"What am I watching? I never watch TV anymore...only Netflix and this is what is on TV. Jesus Christ! Is this a real sport?"

Ben Askren cannot comprehend the appeal of the Power Slap League

Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, announced the introduction of the Power Slap League, a sanctioned and regulated combat sport centered on competitive open-handed striking. Power Slap, founded by White, Lorenzo Fertitta, and Craig Piligian in collaboration with the UFC and Endeavor and produced by Pilgrim Media Group, will feature contestants from around the world competing on the ultimate stage to demonstrate their strength, skill, and determination.

Power Slap premiered on TBS with an initial eight-episode run, which will feature athletes competing for a place in the cast. The Nevada State Athletic Commission oversees the league.

The premiere of the show was met with a mixed reception by the combat sports community. Former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren cannot fathom the Power Slap League's appeal. He took to Twitter to react to the event and wrote:

"I just don’t see the attraction to Power Slap. Feels like you have to be sadistic to like it."
