Aung La N Sang is one of the most seasoned veterans in ONE Championship, competing an astonishing 17 times for the promotion. Of his 13 wins, he’s managed to finish 11 of his opponents.
ONE Championship collected the bulk of those finishes and put them in one video, uploaded to their YouTube channel:
Most recently, Aung La N Sang battled another older, well-travelled fighter in Yushin Okami. Despite Okami’s longevity in the sport, Aung La handled him with relative ease, punching through the Japanese middleweight in one minute and 42 seconds.
The bout was a crossroads fight of sorts for Aung La N Sang, who had previously dropped three of his past four. Now, he has the chance to turn things around further and create a winning streak for the first time since he held a belt.
His originally scheduled opponent, Chinese middleweight Fan Rong, was unable to give it a go just a few weeks out of the event. As a result, Brazilian Gilberto Galvao stepped in as a late replacement.
Galvao is an MMA veteran with 30 victories to his name. In his four appearances in ONE Championship, he’s beaten Tatsuya Mizuno and Jake Butler while falling to world champ Reinier de Ridder and UFC veteran Marcin Prachnio.
Aung La N Sang expresses desire to fight in another historic arena in Thailand
Fighter careers can come and go, but the setting for the fights stands for generations, building their own ledger of lore.
One such famous hall in Asia is Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, where many of the biggest Muay Thai fights in the country are held. ONE Championship will begin holding events in Lumpinee starting in two weeks, and many fighters are itching to compete in the historic venue.
Aung La N Sang sees competing in Lumpinee as a bucket list item for his career and hopes to get the chance soon.
Speaking to ONE Championship, Aung La said:
“I would love to be on one of those cards. It would be amazing. As a fighter, for us to go to Japan and compete in the sumo arena, that was historical and amazing. To do that in Lumpinee Stadium would be amazing as well.”
Aung La N Sang continued, saying:
“It’s one of those things that you can only dream of. Not many fighters can say they fought in Lumpinee Stadium. Not many fighters can say they fought in the sumo Arena in Tokyo. It would be great for me.”
ONE Lumpinee 1, the first event in a huge deal between ONE Championship and the famed arena, goes down on January 20th, headlined by a Muay Thai world title fight between Nong-O Gaiyanghadao and Alaverdi Ramazanov.
