Toni Dovale Biography

Antonio Rodriguez Dovale, popularly known as Toni Dovale is a Spanish footballer, born on 4th April 1990 in A Coruna, Spain. Dovale primarily plays on the right wing of the playing field but can also play as an attacking midfielder and on the left wing. Dovale prefers his left foot to his right.

Background

Toni Dovale started his career in the youth academy of local club, Ural CF. He then joined the academy of FC Barcelona and played alongside future Barcelona professionals Jonathan dos Santos, Thiago Alcantara and Bojan Krkic for four years.

In 2005, Dovale joined Celta Vigo as a youth player.

Debut

Two years later, Dovale was promoted to the first team of Celta and made his debut in the Segunda Division in a 1-2 loss against Numancia.

Dovale would soon be loaned out to fellow Segunda Division side SD Huesca in 2010-11.

Rise to Glory

Toni returned to his parent club Celta Vigo at the start of the 2011-12 season and helped the side to promotion in the same season. He made 30 appearances and scored a couple of goals as his side finished second in the Segunda Division.

Toni played an important role for Celta over the next two seasons as he helped them stay in the top flight of Spanish football. The highlight of his time with Celta was the 2013-14 season when he helped them achieve a 9th place finish.

As Toni found less opportunities to start for Celta, he started looking elsewhere and moved Sporting Kansas City in the MLS across the Atlantic. He spent only a single season in USA and scored an important goal in the match against New York Red Bulls. Dovale also appeared for 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly against Manchester City.

Toni returned to Spain and signed for another second division side Leganes. He helped Leganes to promotion as well and joined Rayo Vallecano in 2016-17. He soon signed for Indian club Bengaluru FC. He has had an impressive season for the club as he has already made four assists in just nine appearances in the Indian Super League.

Low Points

After achieving promotion with Leganes and signing for Rayo Vallecano in 2016-17, much was expected from Toni. However, he could not deliver the goods as he appeared in only 2 games.

Club Career

Toni Dovale made 78 appearances for Celta Vigo and scored five goals. He then joined Sporting Kansas City and appeared in 23 matches. He scored four goals and three assists. Toni then appeared 19 times for Leganes and scored a solitary goal. He had a disappointing year with Rayo Vallecano where he made only two appearances. Toni currently plies his trade with Bengaluru FC and has made 11 appearances.

Records

Toni Dovale was named as Sporting Kansas’ 2014 Co-Newcomer of the Year.
