Borja Fernandez is a Spanish footballer, born on Jan 14, 1981, he plays for Real Valladolid as a defensive midfielder.


Background


Borja represented Real Madrid in 23 games. He came through the youth system at Real and became a first team player in 2003. He then moved to Real Valladolid and played in La Liga.


Debut


Borja joined the Real Madrid Academy in 1996 in which he was selected for his good performances in team C and team B after which he was included in the senior team in 2003.


He represented Spanish national team in 25 games at U-16, U-17, U-18, and U- 21 levels since 1998.


Rise To Glory


In Hero Indian Super League 2014, his team, Atletico de Kolkata won the Indian Super League twice, in 2014 and 2016.


His team, Deportivo de La Coruna won the Spanish second league in 2011.


Low Points


2013 didn't turn out to be a good year for him, when he had to miss four games for Getafe CF as result of injuries.


Club career


He has played for U16, U17, U18 and U21 teams since 1998.


Borja appeared in Indian Super League where he played for Atletico de Kolkata side which eventually won the League in 2014.


For the remaining 2014-15 season he played for SD Eibar in La Liga. Before this as well ge has played for SD Eibar while he was in Real Madrid in 2004.


Borja has played in national cup competition, Copa del Rey from 2001- 2013. He played for Real Madrid from 2001-2003, Real Valladolid CF from 2007-09, for Getafe CF in 2010, 2012 and 2014 and for Deportivo de La Coruna in 2011.

He has played in La Liga 2 2011( Deportivo de La Coruna), 2015 for Real Valladolid CF, 2016 for UD Almeria and 2017 for Real Valladolid CF.


Apart from this he has played in Europa League and Europa League Qualifiers in 2010 for Getafe CF and in Champions League, 2001, 2003 & 2004 for Real Madrid.


Captaincy


Borja was the captain of Atletico de Kolkata in the Hero Indian Super League 2016. Under his captaincy, Atletico de Kolkata won the League that year.
