Devindar Walmiki: A Brief Biography
Devinder, younger brother Anup, and their cousin Yuvraj are all well-known in the Indian hockey fraternity. 1992-born Devinder, a midfielder for the squad, displayed his talent at the junior level, representing India at the junior Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia in 2010. The 24-year-old is a relatively new entrant to the side, making his senior debut in 2015. He impressed on debut, however, scoring a match-winning goal against the home side in India’s course at the FIH Hockey World League semi-finals in Antwerp, Belgium last year. He would go on to win an award at the Hockey National Awards for the feat. Following in the footsteps of his older cousin, Devinder has cited Yuvraj as his inspiration. Rio 2016 marks his Olympic debut.
