Harald Anton Schumacher also known as Toni Schumacher is a former German footballer.


He was a goalkeeper and played for FC Köln, Schalke, Fenerbahçe, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in senior career.


He mainly played for West Germany as a National Team.

Controversy


Schumacher was associated with a crash with a French defender, substitute Patrick Battiston, in the semi-last of the 1982 World Cup.


Battiston and Schumacher were both dashing towards a long through ball from Michel Platini. Battiston got to the ball first and flicked it up and to the side of the moving toward Schumacher.


Schumacher jumped into the air as the ball cruised past him, albeit wide of the target. Schumacher, still noticeable all around, slammed into Battiston. The subsequent contact left Battiston oblivious, later slipping into a state of unconsciousness.
