Maciej Rybus: A Brief Biography

Maciej Rybus is a Polish footballer who mainly plays as a left back or sometimes as a Right back or left midfield. He was born on 19 August 1989 in Lowicz, Poland. He currently plays for the club Lokomotiv Moscow and Poland National Football Team.


Background


Rybus started his football career with a local youth club named Pelikan Lowicz and played for their U19 team. In January 2006, he was bought by MSP Szamotuly and played for one season before eventually being picked by Legia Warsaw.


Rybus was included in the Poland U19 team and made one appearance. He debuted for the Legia in November 2007 in a match against Dyskobolia Grodzisk Wielkopolski.


He scored his first goal against Gornik Zabrze the next month and went on to score a total of 4 goals in the 14 appearances he made. Legia won the Polish Cup in the 2007-08 season.


Rybus made his debut for the Poland U21 team on 5 September 2008 against Sweden U21 in a 1-0 loss. He made 9 appearances for the Poland U21 team while scoring 2 goals.


Debut


Rybus made his international debut for Poland on 14 November 2009 against Romania in a 0-1 loss. In his next international match for Poland, he scored a goal against Canada in a 1-0 win.


Club Career


Rybus has spent most of his career with Legia Warsaw as he has made 135 appearances for the club while scoring 16 goals and also provided 22 assists.


He has won the Polish Cup thrice with Legia and also won the Polish Super Cup once in the 2008-09 season. In February 2012, he was signed by the Russian club FC Akhmat Grozny.


Rybus spent 4 years at the club while scoring 18 goals and provided 20 assists in the 109 appearances he made. He was signed by the French club Olympique Lyonnais in July 2016.


He spent a season at the club and made 28 appearances for Lyon while providing 2 assists. He eventually returned to Russia and joined FC Lokomotiv Moscow in July 2017.


He has made 23 appearances for Lokomotiv and has scored a solitary goal for the club in the Europa League.
