Sumit Sangwan is an Indian amateur boxer who was regarded as one of the youngest members of the Indian Olympics contingent. Besides international matches, he plays for the Bhiwani Boxing club. He shot up to fame when he won gold medal at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan in April. The 19-year-old outclassed Jordan's Ihab Almatdault 24-12 in the 81 kg category to become the seventh Indian to qualify for the London Games. He was reserved a slot in the London olympics after he was picked for the Olympic qualifiers over 2010 Asian Games silver medallist and Olympian Dinesh Kumar. He participated in the light heavyweight category of the 2012 Olympics but lost his bout to Yamaguchi FalcΓ£o Florentino under controversial circumstances.
