Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto, the Avant-Garde designer, have once again collaborated to create one of their most eye-catching and daring sneaker silhouettes to date - the Y-3 GENDO. The two brands boast a partnership that goes as far back as twenty years ago and an array of iconic sneaker products, especially the iconic Y-3 QASA High sneakers.
The Y-3 Gendo Superstar and the Y-3 Gendo Pro Model were first unveiled on Yohji Yamamoto's Fall/Winter 23/24 runway show and are inspired by the idea of negative space concept and elevation.
The sneakers were officially released for public consumption on October 21, 2023, and are available globally at adidas.com/y-3, Yohji Yamamoto boutiques, theshopyohjiyamamoto.com, and through select retailers for the price of $800.

The Three Stripes brand introduces the sneakers on their website as follows:
"Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto collaborate once again to present one of their most innovative and daring silhouettes to date. The progressive sneaker takes a fully hollowed-out TP plate that was first created by the innovation team as a performance midsole."
It continues:
"The combination with the iconic Superstar model results in an expressive, dynamic form that emerges as the pinnacle expression of the collision between Yohji Yamamoto and the Three Stripes aesthetics."
The Y-3 Gendo Superstar
The sneakers do away with some of the typical components of a shoe as the TPU structure is completely hollowed out on both colorways. These futuristic sneakers feature a hard polymer plate and a one-to-one upper from the original Superstar silhouette.
The sneakers are available in two exciting colorways: black and white. The white colorway is distinguished by a white upper dusted with black stripes and a cream sole.
Yohji Yamamoto's signature is embossed on the black midsole in brilliant white.
The carved sole extends to the toe cap of the sneakers in a trendy arc. The toe cap is distinguished from the rest of the upper exterior as it is dressed in ribbed leather.
The black colorway of the Gendo Superstar is composed of an all-black upper with a cream-colored sole jutting towards the toe cap and creating a colorful contrast.
The Y-3 Gendo Pro Model
These impressive sneakers also come in white and black colorways. The sneakers ditch the conventional lacing style adapted by the Superstar for an expressive zip closure. Unlike the Superstar, the shoes are also distinguished by a high-top model upper.
The white colorway is accented by touches of black around the midsole and a cream-colored outsole extending toward the toecap. The toe cap features a suede finish, setting it apart from the leathery material of the shoe's upper.
The Y-3 Gendo Pro Model also features Yohsi Yamamoto's signature, but unlike the Superstar, the signature is placed on the base of the hollowed-out sole. The black zipper overlay further enhances the brilliant white of the shoes' upper.
The black colorway doesn't feature any other color accents. Yohji Yamamoto's signature is discreetly placed on the hollowed-out sole in white.
The all-black embroidery on the shoes further enhances their aesthetic appeal. The black color also offers a different choice for those not drawn to white hues.
As it is not the first time Adidas has collaborated with Yohji Yamamoto, the Y-3 partnership between the designer and Adidas continues to excite fans of the two. The partnership continues to create innovative and futuristic sneakers to the delight of sneakerheads all over the world.
The sneakers are available for sale on the brands' official websites and at select retail stores for $800.
