Len Goodman, a former judge on popular shows like Dancing with the Stars and Strictly Come Dancing, passed away at 78 earlier this year, on April 22, 2023. His agent, Jackie Gill, conveyed at the time that Goodman died peacefully, surrounded by his family, stating:

On October 1, 2023, Goodman's cause of death was revealed, nearly six months after his passing. As confirmed by his death certificate, he died from prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, according to The Daily Express.

His career spanned over 17 years on Dancing with the Stars alone, and he left the show last November to spend more time with his family in Britain. The Mirrorball trophy on the show has been renamed in his honor, marking his lasting influence.

Len Goodman began his judging career with a BBC dance competition

Goodman had a long and fulfilling career in the world of dance and television. As per Deadline, prior to his television appearances, he had worked as a professional dancer for decades.

He first gained prominence as a judge on the BBC competition series, Strictly Come Dancing, which debuted in 2004. The following year, he joined the panel of judges on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, where he served for 17 years. Last November, Goodman made the decision to leave the show.

At the time, he announced:

“Whilst we are all getting excited and looking forward so much to the finale next week, it will also be with a touch of sadness as this will be my last season judging on ‘Dancing With the Stars."

Explaining the reason behind his departure, Len Goodman expressed a desire to spend more time with his family, particularly his grandchildren, back in Britain:

“I have been with the show since it started in 2005 and it has been a huge pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful show. But I have decided I’d like to spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain.”

The impact Len Goodman had on the dance and television communities was immeasurable, as evidenced by the tributes that poured in following his passing.

To honor his contributions, the Mirrorball trophy on Dancing with the Stars has been renamed the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. This tribute ensures that his influence will continue to be felt in future seasons of the show.

Fellow judges and colleagues have also paid their respects, expressing their sorrow and admiration for Goodman.
