Before even celebrating their first debut anniversary, ADOR’s NewJeans achieved their first Guinness World Record. The OMG singers broke the record for the fastest K-pop act to surpass one billion streams on Spotify on March 8, 2023, achieving this impressive feat in just 219 days.

Previously, the record went to BTS’ Jung Kook, who achieved the same feat in 409 days on March 27, 2023. Prior to that, BLACKPINK’s Lisa broke the record with 411 days on October 26, 2022. Although NewJeans became the fastest overall K-pop act, the Euphoria singer and the MONEY rapper remain the fastest K-pop male and female soloists to acheive one billion streams on Spotify, respectively.

Fans celebrate as NewJeans achieves their first ever Guinness World Record

The OMG singers NewJeans have become one of the hottest K-pop groups ever since they debuted in June last year. The group took over South Korean and international music charts with their songs, starting from Hype Boy to their recent tracks, OMG and Ditto. The five-member girl group also broke several records, earning themselves a name in K-pop’s history books.

NewJeans went up a notch by achieving their first ever Guinness World Record last month. The Ditto singers became the fastest K-pop act to reach a whopping one billion streams on Spotify on March 8, 2023.

At the time of the record, the group had only six songs released on the platform. These were Hype Boy, Attention, Cookie, and Hurt from their debut EP New Jeans, and their single tracks OMG and Ditto.

At the time of writing this article, the group had one more song on Spotify, their collaboration track with Coca-Cola titled Zero. NewJeans’ most streamed songs were OMG with 320 million streams, followed closely by Ditto, which had 318 million streams. Except Hurt, all other songs have also raked in over 128 million streams on Spotify.

The Ditto singers’ impressive feat led to a flood of congratulatory comments on Twitter. K-pop fans praised the group once again for their relatable factor and ability to achieve great feats at such a short time in their careers. Take a look at how they reacted below:

Meanwhile, the beginning of April brought reports about the group preparing for a summer comeback. The news spread far and wide, and in a few hours, ADOR, the group’s agency responded saying that the comeback date was undecided. It also responded about the reported pre-release single in June with a crisp statement,

“Nothing has been set in stone.”

All five members of NewJeans are already luxury brand ambassadors

The five members of NewJeans did not only take over the Korean music industry, but also the fashion industry. With their impressive Y2K styling bringing a fresh sense of nostalgia in K-pop, the singers’ explosive popularity made them bag deals with luxury brand houses.

The group’s eldest member, Minji, is the brand ambassador of Chanel, Haerin has a partnership with Dior, while Hyein is the brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton.

Meanwhile, Hanni and Danielle are brand ambassadors for Gucci and Burberry respectively. They also bagged beauty partnerships - Hanni for Armani Beauty and Danielle for Yves Saint Lauren.
