The Next Level singers aespa surprised fans by opening their personal Instagram accounts on May 22, 2023. Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning debuted in November 2020, and nearly two and a half years later, they treated fans to personal social media accounts.

An idol opening a personal account is a cause for celebration in the K-pop industry, as it gives them a way into the idols’ lives apart from the official content that their agency releases.

While fans impatiently wait to see each member’s aesthetic on Instagram, what got them reeling with laughter was the usernames they chose. The Spicy singers turned away from cliche usernames and came up with some creative ones that had fans both laughing and crying.

From taking over the music industry with their additive songs such as Next Level and Savage to giving various idols a competition in their physical appearance, SM Entertainment’s group aespa continues to be one of the most popular fourth-generation K-pop idols. Having the K-pop idols finally open their personal Instagram accounts on May 22 naturally had fans excited.

The Spicy singers chose a group photo to commemorate the opening of their Instagram accounts. Fans immediately noticed how the photos were similar, except that each member took turns clicking the picture. The singers posted the picture where the particular picture was taken by themselves, giving fans four different yet a tad similar group photos.

While the photo brought in the emotional factor, the usernames brought in the funny factor. Fans were roaring with laughter after noticing the usernames that the aespa members personally selected. Winter’s username seemed the most ordinary, while Karina used multiple underscores, Giselle used a Japanese phrase with her Japanese name, and Ningning outrightly said that she wasn’t Ningning.

Among all the different usernames, fans especially loved Ningning and Giselle’s Instagram account names. They loved how the aespa members made creative names for themselves. There was also some playful teasing on Twitter, such as when one fan said that it was good that the singers were “not digital influencers.”

Another fan even joked that the group’s social media manager or intern was probably “miserable af” seeing the usernames they chose to create their Instagram accounts.

Meanwhile, aespa continued to showcase their impressive popularity with the latest release of their mini album, MY WORLD, after more than nine months of their previous release, Girls.

On May 21, the quintet became the fastest K-pop girl group to earn the double-million-selling title with MY WORLD. The mini album was released on May 8, and it officially took the album two weeks to sell 2,011,388 copies.

Moreover, the group’s global appeal will also be seen at the upcoming 2023 Cannes Film Festival as jewelry brand Chopard’s ambassadors.
