Esmeralda Ferrer Garibay, 32, a TikTok content creator from Mexico, was found dead inside a gray Ford Ranger alongside her husband and two children on August 22. According to The Mirror, Esmeralda and her family recently moved to the Guadalajara metropolitan area in Jalisco for work.Esmeralda Ferrer, who went by @esmeraldafg222 on TikTok, boasted a following of 18K, according to The US Sun, and shared glimpses of a luxurious lifestyle online. Her posts mostly featured her expensive cars, purchases from luxury brands, including Dior, Versace, and Gucci, as well as lavish vacations. The TikToker's children and pet Pomeranians sometimes made appearances on her posts.Esmeralda's online content reflected a Mexican cartel culture as she often posted videos lip-syncing to drug ballads, known as 'narcocorridos'. Per The Mirror, some of these songs bore references to the Beltrán Leyva cartel.One of Esmeralda's controversial TikTok posts was titled, "advantages of having a narco boyfriend". Her final post was dated August 7.Esmeralda Ferrer and her family's killings may have links to her husband's business activitiesDespite making posts about drug cartels, investigators don't believe Esmeralda's online content brought forth the killings. They think her husband Roberto's business might have made the family a target for some criminal gang.Police tracked the Ford Ranger's path with the help of surveillance footage and data from the Ministry of Security and National Guard. The truck's route was traced back to an automobile repair shop on Ejido Avenue.According to Latin Times, a suspect who goes by 'El Chino' and a workshop employee, Héctor Manuel Valdivia Martínez, were interrogated under supervision. They were later released when authorities were unable to collect adequate evidence.However, per prosecutor Alfonso Gutierrez Santillan's statement reported by The Mirror:"The scene was processed, and investigators found multiple pieces of evidence suggesting the family was killed there."He added:"While the forensic results are not yet in, ballistic and blood evidence almost certainly confirm they were murdered at that location."Latin Times reported that El Chino and Héctor Manuel met two relatives after the interrogation, but were kidnapped by some armed men. El Chino reportedly managed to flee the abduction while the other three are still missing. Investigators are looking to El Chino for his statement.Another prosecutor, Blanca Trujillo, said the four men were not abruptly attacked. He said the culprits attacked the two men "a few meters" from the prosecutor's office after waiting for them outside "for over two hours".While the investigation into Esmeralda Ferrer and her family's murder is ongoing, the online community has been deeply shocked.
