Who is Talisa Soto? All about Benjamin Bratt's wife as he reveals her cancer diagnosis

American actor Benjamin Bratt disclosed that his wife, Talisa Soto, had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

On March 11, while promoting his upcoming HBO drama DMZ on Today, the 58-year-old who likes to keep his life private opened up about his wife's condition to encourage women to get regular screenings.

"This is something I typically would keep close-held, but through the pandemic, through self-exam and then by going to her yearly mammogram, she discovered that she was positive for breast cancer.”

The Modern Family star also said that Soto asked him to share her diagnosis with other women to remain careful.

"It’s important to get your screenings yearly, that you have to self-advocate for yourself and take care of yourself. Not just eating well, but you have to get to the doctor and make these exams a part of your regular life.”

Benjamin Bratt further revealed that Soto is "doing great" and was "found to be cancer-free" at the moment. They are currently taking precautions to make sure it does not relapse.

Born on March 27, 1967, in a Puerto Rican family, Talisa Soto is a native of New York, United States. She is a former model and actress known for playing Princess Kitana's role in Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. She also starred as Lupe Lamora in License to Kill.

As a 15-year-old model, Soto was represented by Click Model Management. The 54-year-old was featured in some of the top fashion magazines globally and was part of several international brand commercial campaigns.

Before she graduated high school, she continued to model part-time. She appeared in American and British Vogue, British Elle, Mademoiselle, Glamour, and Self.

Her commercial campaigns included Calvin Klein, Clarins, Revlon, Salvatore Ferragamo, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Versace. She also appeared in several music videos. Soto appeared with her then-boyfriend Nick Kamen in the music video for Madonna's song Each Time You Break My Heart (1986).

Talisa made her acting debut in 1984 by starring in The Pope of Greenwich Village. Later, she appeared in the television miniseries The French as Seen by... Her acting credits include Harts of the West, Spy Hard, and Island of the Dead.

Benjamin Bratt's brother, Peter Bratt, directed her in his 2009 film La Mission, in which she played Ana. She has not acted much since then. She appeared uncredited in the dystopian science fiction film Elysium in 2013.

In her personal life, Soto was previously married to actor Costas Mandylor from 1997 to 2000. She began dating Benjamin Bratt in 2002 even though the two knew each other from 1993's crime-drama film Blood in Blood out.

Their relationship bloomed in 2001 while shooting for the biopic Piñero and Soto gave birth to their daughter Sophia Rosalinda Bratt in 2002. They also welcomed their son Mateo Bravery Bratt in 2005.
