Tara Lipinski, an Olympic gold medalist, has announced the birth of her first child. The American former competitive figure skater, actress, sports commentator, and documentary film producer has recently revealed on her Instagram account that she and husband Todd Kapostasy welcomed their daughter Georgie, who was born via surrogacy.

After a painful five-year struggle with infertility and going through multiple emotionally and physically draining miscarriages, the arrival of her daughter is indeed a joyous and emotional moment for the former skater and her husband. The couple has opened up about their battle with infertility.

Tara Lipinski is a former figure skater competitor in women's singles. She is a renowned figure skater who was the 1998 Olympic champion, the 1997 World champion, a two-time Champions Series Final champion (1997–1998), and the 1997 U.S. national champion.

She went down in the history of figure skating as the youngest single skater to win a U.S. Nationals, the youngest to become an Olympic and World champion, and the first woman to complete a triple loop combination, which is her signature jump element in competition.

Tara Lipinski retired from competitive figure skating in 1998. But she has made her name by winning every competition she entered during her professional career. She was also the youngest skater to win the World Professional Figure Skating Championships.

Tara Lipinski welcomes her baby daughter

Tara Lipinski had a dream-come-true moment when she welcomed her daughter Georgia after years of battling infertility issues on October 25, 2023. The former figure skater commented on the birth of her daughter,

"I dreamt about this for so long. A crying baby, sleepless nights. Even when I'm like, 'Okay, take an hour nap,' I'm almost too excited. I'm like, 'She's there. Just watch her a little longer. It's the best tired I've ever been."

The arrival of Georgie to Lipinsky and her husband, Kapostasy, comes after a period of infertility that caused Lipinsky to feel shattered and isolated. The couple launched their vulnerable new podcast, Unexpecting, to share their story in August.

Lipinski suffers from endometriosis, where her body rejects its fertilized embryo. Her condition has made her go through four pregnancies, four miscarriages, and four D&Cs (a painful procedure to remove pregnancy tissue from the uterine lining). But after her last miscarriage, she made a decision,

"It was like, 'Okay Tara, you've put your body through enough.' That's when I decided to think of other options."

Lipinski finally opted for surrogacy. The former figure skater has shared how she instantly connected with her surrogate Mikayla, who became pregnant early this year with one of the couple's fertilized eggs. Talking about the emotional moment of Georgie's birth, she has said,

"I was playing Dave Matthews's song 'You and Me' and I could not stop sobbing. Then the baby came out, and it was so much relief," she says. "I felt like I could breathe again."

While years of struggle have strained her marriage, the couple is finally happy. Sharing about their struggles, Tara Lipinski said,

"It gave us time to figure out how to support each other. I would have loved for us to not have gone through all this. But now, I can't imagine it any other way."

The former figure skater is now spending all her time bonding with her newborn daughter.

Tara Lipinski is excited about her new life as a mother and looks forward to all the joys of motherhood.
