In an appearance on This Morning, the actor opened up about his decision to leave the show, saying,

"Twenty years is a long time. It’s been an incredible twenty years. I am so grateful to Emmerdale. Throughout that period I have always had a real sense of fulfilment and purpose. What started out as a hobby at six years old – I was then able to do something like that every day on a professional platform on one of the country’s greatest shows. I have been extremely lucky. Looking back over 20 years it has been a rollercoaster and for me it’s given me passion to leave and continue."

In 1994, Kelvin Fletcher embarked on his acting career, taking on the lead role of Darren in CITV's children's drama, Three Seven Eleven. This marked the genesis of a remarkable journey in the entertainment industry. While he's widely recognized for his role in the iconic Yorkshire-based program, Kelvin's initial foray into soap operas occurred in 1996 when he secured a minor part in Coronation Street.

Notably, when Kelvin made his debut on the set of Emmerdale, he was initially slated for just three episodes. His exceptional talent, however, quickly led to an extended contract, propelling him to become one of the show's most beloved characters. His participation in Strictly Come Dancing's 2019 edition culminated in a remarkable moment as well. Initially not part of the show, Kelvin joined to replace an injured contestant, Jamie Laing. His partnership with professional dancer Oti Mabuse marked the beginning of an incredible dance journey.

Kelvin and Oti quickly became fan favorites as they delivered mesmerizing dance performances. In the final, the then 36-year-old actor secured his place in the history of Strictly Come Dancing, defeating finalists, CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual and EastEnders actor Emma Barton. With just two points deducted from the leaderboard during the final, Kelvin and Oti claimed victory, becoming the seventeenth couple to win the prestigious dance competition.
