Dean Ambrose seems as if he might be leaving the WWE after Wrestlemania. Here are five things that could be driving the Lunatic Fringe away from the biggest wrestling company on the planet. When it comes to his approach to pro wrestling, Dean Ambrose is decidedly an old school type of character.

Ambrose would be right at home in the 1980s in a smoky bingo hall, slugging it out with the likes of Dick Murdoch and Dusty Rhodes. He would also be able to thrive in an environment like 1990s WCW, during the Monday Night War, where his propensity for violence and unpredictable behaviour would be a tremendous boon.

However, one place that doesn't seem to be quite right for Dean Ambrose is the world's largest pro wrestling organization, the WWE. Dean Ambrose has been on the main roster of the WWE for just over six years, having come up from NXT with his fellow Shield brothers, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.

But while Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have seen their stock grow by the year, Dean Ambrose has struggled to remain relevant in the WWE. Even though he had a world championship title reign, a lack of worthy challengers and lacklustre booking made his run ultimately forgettable.

It was broken on the internet that Dean Ambrose will not be resigning with WWE after his contract expires in April of this year. Understanding why he made this decision means understanding Dean Ambrose the man. Here are five reasons why Dean Ambrose is unsatisfied with working in the WWE.

#1 The WWE doesn't acknowledge his Independent Scene Legend status

One of the most frustrating things many stars find about working for WWE is the fact that the promotion does not like to acknowledge that other wrestling companies exist.

This led to Ring of Honor and New Japan star El Generico being forced to relinquish his mask and identity and become Sami Zayn. It also has led to men like Colt Cabana, who was well known to wrestling fans, being re-christened to Scotty Goldman.

The WWE did the same thing, changing Jon Moxley into Dean Ambrose, a name they already had under copyright before Johnathon Good, the man who plays both characters, was even signed. Dean Ambrose is quite proud of his independent scene legend status, and the fact that he worked his way to the top through effort. WWE's refusal to acknowledge such has been a constant source of frustration to the Lunatic Fringe.

#2 He hates doing 'hokey' things

The WWE is the home to some of the greatest pro wrestling moments in history. After all, who can forget that triumphant moment when Hulk Hogan body slammed Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III? Or when Ric Flair went the distance and lasted all the way through the Royal Rumble, capturing the WWE title in the process?

Unfortunately, the WWE is also home to some memories that are not so great, such as Mexican wrestling veteran star Hector Guerrero being forced to don a giant turkey suit and 'hatch' out of an egg at Survivor Series. Or perhaps you recall when the WWE had 2008 Democratic presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama fight in effigy?

We've already established that Dean Ambrose is an old school wrestler in terms of mentality. It has been reported that he hates doing things he considers 'hokey,' which would have to include the time WWE made him dress like the Mountie.

#3 His main event push was brief and unsatisfying

Back in 2016, a curious phenomenon occurred in the WWE. After the Shield split apart, Roman Reigns was placed in the main event spot as the 'top guy' on RAW. He was used in promotional materials, booked at major arena shows, and used to drive up ticket sales.

However, what happened was events main evented by Dean Ambrose were pulling in just as much if not more money than those being topped by Roman Reigns. The WWE decided to put the WWE World title on Dean Ambrose for this very reason.

However, it was a bad time to be made a champion, because he had so few credible challengers. Dean Ambrose's reign as WWE World Champion is considered a disappointment to many, mostly because of a lack of good opponents available and the fact that Dean wasn't booked as the outlaw hell raiser he should have been. What should have been the second coming of a Stone Coldesque anti-hero was instead something that many people have already forgotten. The fact that his main event push fizzled out has to rankle Ambrose.

#4 Forgettable matches with men like Brock Lesnar

Dean Ambrose is a subtle and nuanced performer. While he is capable of brawling and hardcore antics, he is also an underrated ring technician and submission artist.

Perhaps that is why he has been so frustrated when working matches with men like Brock Lesnar. Their title match was considered a major disappointment, and Dean placed the blame squarely on the shoulders of the Beast Incarnate.

During Stone Cold's podcast, the Lunatic Fringe made certain to point out that "Brock Didn't want to do anything," meaning that Lesnar was interested in only collecting a quick paycheck and not at all with making the match memorable or entertaining. Dean has often been forced to work with such talents, while Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns faced more worthy opponents. This frustration could be one of the reasons Dean Ambrose wants to leave the WWE behind.

#5 He might find more success in All Elite Wrestling

Dean Ambrose has never quite fit the mould of what WWE searches for in a main event talent. For one, despite the fact that he stands over six feet tall, Ambrose weighs in at two hundred twenty pounds. He simply isn't the muscle man that men like The Rock and Triple H or John Cena have been.

In addition, his character is more of a sly, subtle, and sneaky sort. It plays well in the right environment, but in the land of leprechauns under the ring and undead warriors it sometimes gets lost in the shuffle.

Given the formation of All Elite Wrestling, it's only logical that Dean Ambrose might be considering signing with that company once his contract expires. After all, the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes were never gigantic muscle men, either, and his more subtle character might play a lot better to a more informed pro wrestling audience.

There you have it; five reasons that might make you understand why Dean Ambrose wants to leave WWE.
