5 reasons WWE should have a Tag Team Money in the Bank match

<p>

Back in 2005, Chris Jericho had a problem. WrestleMania 21 was just around the corner, and yet he found himself with no worthy opponents.

Desiring a WrestleMania moment that would make him 'immortal,' he came up with the idea for the Money in the Bank ladder match. While ladder matches had been around for some time, the stipulations for this one would be unique; Rather than dangling a title belt over the ring, there would be a briefcase with a contract for the WWE world title inside.

The first man to claim the briefcase then won the contract, and the right to cash it in at any time, night or day. This isn't the first time the WWE used the idea of around the clock title defenses; Crash Holly did it with the Hardcore championship.

The biggest difference being that in the case of Money in the Bank only one person has the right to demand a title shot night or day.

Over time, many wrestlers have cashed in their MITB contract successfully, while a few others have failed to do so. CM Punk and Edge famously used their contracts on beaten and wearied opponents, much to the chagrin of the fans watching.

With great potential for storylines and angles, the MITB match has been elevated to its own pay per view. Now even the women's division gets their own MITB match. Which begs the question; What about the tag teams? Could WWE not have another MITB match exclusively for the tag division?

Here are five reasons the WWE needs to have a tag team Money in the Bank match.

#1 Tag teams redefined the ladder match with TLC

The ladder match had become something of a seldom-used anachronism in the Attitude era of WWE, but three tag teams brought it back to prominence; The Dudleys, The Hardy Boys, and Edge and Christian.

The three teams decimated each other and created many of the spots that are now ladder match staples. Having a tag team MITB match would be like coming full circle for the concept.

#2 Tag matches are more exciting

When you watch a wrestling show from any promotion, you'll find that roughly half the matches are tag team contests. This is no accident, but an acknowledgment of how much fans enjoy tag team wrestling.

Tag teams allow the promotions to give air time to four athletes instead of just two (or more in the cases of triple threat or four corners tag matches). Also, getting more characters and personalities involved in the contest creates greater drama and therefore a greater payoff when the match reaches its epic conclusion. Adding in the MITB only magnifies this effect.

#3 MITB would give fresh blood a chance at the tag titles

Over the last year, the WWE tag team title picture dwindled down to just a handful of teams. While the New Day, Usos, The Bar, and others are all fine teams and great wrestlers, after a while, it feels like it's time to see some new faces holding the titles.

Money in the Bank would be a great opportunity for a lower tier tag team to be elevated to main event status.

#4 Tag MITB matches would be within the Idiom for the Money in the Bank pay per view

<p>

Years ago, TNA -- when it was still called that -- came up with the Lockdown PPV. EVERY match at that event was contested in a steel cage, which was just as awesome as it sounded.

With a Money in the Bank themed pay per view, the WWE could accomplish the same thing. There could be two additional MITB contests to flesh out the pay per view and keep the ladder theme going.

#5 The fans would love it

At the end of the day, the WWE doesn't answer to CEO Vince McMahon; They answer to the WWE Universe.

The fans are the ultimate arbiters of what kind of product the WWE puts out. With the advent of social media, the fans now wield more power than ever over wrestling content. Giving them a MITB tag team match just seems like a no-brainer.
