What’s the story?
Alberto Del Rio discusses why he stopped going out in public after his turbulent relationship ended with current WWE Smackdown General Manager, Paige.
In case you didn't know...
If you somehow didn’t know, Paige and Alberto Del Rio had a relationship back in early 2016 and 2017. The couple was reportedly trouble from the very beginning as speculation ran rampant on WWE management trying to get the former WWE Divas Champion away from Del Rio; however, the two lovebirds remained an item despite Del Rio leaving the company in late 2016.
In fact, Paige actually proposed to Alberto at a live wrestling show that was showcased throughout the wrestling world. While it seemed that the couple had plenty of good times in front of the cameras, there were many reports about the hostile relationship that involved constant fighting between the couple.
One incident was caught back in July 2017, when a fan recorded the two having a loud argument in the middle of the Orlando International Airport in Florida which resulted in a potential charge for domestic violence for either party.
The case was eventually dropped and the couple called their engagement quits soon after.
The heart of the matter
The relationship didn’t particularly paint Alberto Del Rio in a good light as many fans fault the former WWE champion for the many struggles Paige went through. Del Rio joined Mark Henry on Busted Open Radio where he talked about being judged out in public and on social media after his breakup with Paige.
"I stopped going out because Mark Henry was telling us in the beginning of this chat you always have stupid people approaching you and wanting to give you a hard time just because of who you are. I got tired of going to places and people wanting to pick fights with me or to prove something themselves or their drunk friends, so I decided to stop going out," revealed Del Rio.
"When it comes to things like social media, the only time I go crazy is when my kids get affected like when they get someone stupid saying something ignorant to them about me because they are babies. Someone says something bad about their father. I have been saying this from the beginning: people are going to say whatever they want to say or believe whatever they want to believe. I say this to people: stick to the facts. The things that some loser said? No, stick to the facts, show me evidence, which is all I am going to say about it."
What’s Next?
Both Paige and Del Rio have happily moved on with their lives since the split. Paige continues her success in wrestling as the Smackdown GM and Del Rio is jumping back into the world of mixed martial arts. Del Rio did try to start a fire back in September 29, 2018 with an Instagram post responding to a fan who stated that his new woman was more attractive than his ex-fiancée,
"Yes and this one doesn't have more than 9 police reports against her, or 3 arrests in different states or committed in 2 mental hospitals like the one you mentioned did". He also took a shot at Paige's brother, writing, "and with real evidence not just lies from her LOSER BROTHER."
Paige never responded, citing on Lilian Garcia's podcast that she’s moved on from Del Rio’s drama.
