5 reasons why Roger Federer should not retire any time soon

↵ At the end of the 2013 season, everybody thought it was the end of the Roger Federer era.At the end of the 2014 season, he has answered all his critics. Five ATP Titles, one Grand Slam final, two Grand Slam semi-finals, World No. 2 ranking and also his first ever Davis Cup title for Switzerland - it could not have been a better season for Federer. Come 2015, he will be looking to better his 2014 results and try to add to his Grand Slam tally. Here are 5 reasons as to why Federer should not retire anytime soon.

#1 Form of his life

At the age of 33,Federer is in the form of his life. No one, not even die-hard Federer fans would have expected him to make such a great comeback after an extremely disappointing season on the court in 2013.

He took note of everything that went wrong in 2013 and worked on his game with the help of Stefan Edberg. He changed the size of his racket head and was able to play the same free flowing, attacking tennis which we have all become accustomed to.

He has looked good against the top 10 this season and has a 17-5 win-loss record against them.

He ended the season by winning his first ever Davis Cup with Switzerland. When he is such good form, he will be looking to carry it on to next year and there is no reason as to why he should consider retiring.

#2 One of the Fittest players

Despite being 33 years old, Federer is one of the fittest players on the tour. He has hardly ever had an issue with his fitness throughout his career. His back did cause him some trouble in 2013 and towards the end of this season. He withdrew from the final of the ATP World Tour finals, but it was just the third time Federer has had to retire from any match.

He made a superb comeback in the Davis Cup finals helping Switzerland win its first Davis Cup. He is on his way to India to play in the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL).

He played in an incredible 19 tournaments this season, including the Davis Cup, and has looked as fit as ever.

With no injury scare to his career and no fitness problem for the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer will be looking to continue strong in 2015 and will be looking to win many, many more tournaments.

#3 The threat of Rafael Nadal

Roger’s arch nemesis, Rafael Nadal might not have had a great season due to his constant injuries, but he is on the road to his recovery and will be getting back to action in 2015. With Rafa being back in action, he will be looking to quickly get back to his winning ways.

Nadal is currently on 14 Grand Slams, just three behind Federer’s 17. If Nadal could keep his injuries at bay, he could easily catch up to Federer’s record and probably even break it. This could serve as an incentive for the Swiss maestro to continue playing and make sure Nadal does not beat his record.

Federer has a poor head to head record against Nadal as well, trailing 10-23. He will be looking to improve on this as well when he comes head to head against the Spaniard in 2015. The greatest rivalry of all time is not yet over.

#4 More to accomplish

Federer has won 82 titles in his illustrious career, but will definitely like to win a lot more. He will be on a mission to break records that aren’t in his name yet.

He is currently third on the list of the most titles achieved by a single player (Jimmy Connors – 109 and Ivan Lendl – 94). If he is on song, he could definitely beat Connors for the top spot. He hasn’t won the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Rome Masters. He will be looking to get his hands on those two trophies before he retires.

Federer is yet to win an Olympic Gold in singles. He will have a chance to do just that at Rio De Janeiro at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He has not won a Grand Slam since Wimbledon 2012, and will be raring to get another title under his belt in 2015, thus moving further up the list of the all time Grand Slam leaders.

Along with his teammates, he won his first ever Davis Cup for Switzerland in 2014. He should be looking to help the Swiss retain it in 2015.

#5 Establish himself as the G.O.A.T

There is still a lot of debate about whether Federer is the Greatest of All Time.

If the Swiss ace can win a few more Majors and improve his record against Nadal, he can truly establish himself as the G.O.A.T. For doing so, he should continue to play on the tour.
