5 reasons why Bryan – Lesnar feud will change WWE

If we believe the rumors and the dirt sheets, the main event for SummerSlam has already been penciled down, at least tentatively if not anything else. The only variable in the equation is the return date for Daniel Bryan. WWE is confident that Bryan will return to action before the Money in The Bank PPV, and will compete against Kane in a stretcher match. They also have a back up plan in case something goes wrong, and Daniel Bryan is unable to recuperate in time for the show. However, that is just a worst case scenario, and WWE is confident about Daniel Bryan getting back inside the ring by the end of the month.Daniel Bryans next opponent after Kane is scheduled to be the one superstar who has the power to make or break someones legacy. That is the kind of rub someone gets when they happen to end the coveted undefeated streak of The Undertaker at WrestleMania. When Brock Lesnar conquered the streak at WrestleMania 30, not only did it make him one of the greatest competitors in the business overnight, it also put enormous burden on his shoulders, to walk around as the guy in professional wrestling. Everyone knew the consequences of being the one to end the legendary streak, and for most of the superstars, it was a burden they werent willing to carry. What was once seen as next to impossible, something similar to breaking the legendary Joe DiMaggios 56 game hitting streak, crumbled in front of the millions of wrestling fans, as The Undertaker finally laid down for the most important three seconds in the history of WrestleMania.Brock Lesnars legitimacy was never a question. The former UFC Heavyweight champion proved that he was the toughest professional wrestler to step foot inside a WWE ring, but perhaps, the burden of being the one to break the streak wasnt exactly what Lesnar was looking for when he returned to the WWE a couple of years ago. But now that the streak has been broken, Brock Lesnar holds the proverbial key that can unlock so many treasure chests in the WWE. Like a magician holding the most powerful wand in the world, Brock Lesnar alone has the capability and the opportunity to turn the WWE on its head. But the question remains: How will WWE utilize this opportunity? Will they put the belt on Lesnar to capitalize on his new found legacy? Or will they let Daniel Bryan win against Brock Lesnar, thus cementing himself to be one of the best WWE World Heavyweight champions, giving him the credibility that no one else in the WWE can give except for Lesnar? In this article, I look at five different ways that this bout can impact the WWE and possibly change the companys landscape.

#5 Cementing Daniel Bryans status as the face of the WWE

Yes, Daniel Bryan has faced the likes of Cena, Punk and Triple H, but after becoming the WWE World Heavyweight champion, there is no name in the WWE for Bryan to face which can top “The beast incarnate”, Brock Lesnar’s, either in legitimacy, star power, or just the magnitude of the superstar. Lesnar has done it all – He won the IWGP title, switched to MMA, won the UFC Heavyweight title, came back to the WWE and defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

Brock Lesnar’s victory against ‘Taker automatically puts Lesnar in a league of his own. No one can be compared to Brock Lesnar, as no one has accomplished the things Lesnar has in his career. Brock will undoubtedly be Bryan’s toughest test till date, and a victory over Lesnar will not only give Daniel Bryan the credibility he hasn’t achieved yet as one of the best WWE champions in recent memory, but it will also validate Bryan’s career. You might think that I’m being naïve, but you shouldn’t underestimate the ‘rub’ Lesnar received by beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania, and the rub his opponents receive just by going toe – to – toe with him.

#4 Possibility of Lesnar becoming the WWE World Heavyweight champion

Who is to say that the WWE wont take a chance with Brock Lesnar and put the title on him? On one hand, it makes perfect sense. There is only one thing left for Lesnar to do in the WWE, after beating The Undertaker. That is to capture the gold, something he has been talking about since last year. Brock Lesnar has done everything a superstar could do in the WWE, and other than putting someone like Daniel Bryan over, I can see only one other result that can really make an impact on the WWE.

WWE has done this before by putting the WWE title on a part timer. Not so long ago, The Rock defeated CM Punk to win the WWE title, and then dropped it to John Cena at WrestleMania. Although it has to be seen if WWE is brave enough to see it through, Lesnar will undoubtedly give the title more credibility than any other part timer can, just by holding it. This can also set up a rematch between the two where Lesnar drops the title back to Bryan, in a way that would put him over big time.

#3 The Paul Heyman factor

In the past 3 years, two people have made the biggest impact in the WWE and in professional wrestling, and both of them happen to be ‘Paul Heyman Guys’. While CM Punk held the WWE title for 434 days, being the longest reigning WWE champion in the past 25 years, Brock Lesnar returned from UFC, and broke The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania. Logic dictates that Paul Heyman can do what no other manager in the history of professional wrestling has done before – Ensure legendary status to his clients.

Paul Heyman’s verbal prowess, combined with his on – screen presence would be enough to land him in the leagues of Bobby Heenan and attain immortality in the business, but Paul Heyman always takes things up a notch, and that is exactly what we can expect with this feud. Imagine Heyman’s promos complementing the in – ring bouts of Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar. As a wrestling fan, I cannot imagine anything better.

#2 Credibility to the WWE World Heavyweight championship

It is often said that a title is as credible as the person holding it. When the WWE Intercontinental championship needed credibility, the WWE put it on someone like Cody Rhodes, who managed to restore the lost valueto the championship. Similarly, the WWE World Heavyweight championship didn’t amount to much around the waist of Randy Orton, but with Daniel Bryan, the championship regained its credibility, and the next person to hold the title needs to be just as credible. With Brock Lesnar, that is the last thing WWE needs to worry about.

Putting the title on a guy who won the IWGP Heavyweight championship and the UFC World Heavyweight championship would definitely add value to it, and that would be the next logical step for Lesnar after breaking the streak. If you can milk a cow, it’s wise to milk it all you can, and the same applies to Brock Lesnar’s status in the WWE.

#1 Cesaro\'s opportunity to make a name for himself

Cesaro is the odds on favorite to win the Money in the Bank ladder match at the moment, and the thought of Cesaro cashing it in on Brock Lesnar, after just winning the WWE World Heavyweight championship can make any wrestling fan salivate at the endless possibilities it can generate, and the great matches it can lead to. If it does happen, not only will Cesaro cement his place in the WWE as the next big thing at the expense of the former next big thing, but it will also lead to some great bouts between Lesnar, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan.

Im not implying that Bryan will or should lose the title, but merely stating the possibility of Cesaro winning the championship after the SummerSlam bout, cashing in on the champion. Just the thought of that happening will give you an idea of its impact on the WWE and on professional wrestling, and the build up to the matches would be amazing, with Paul Heymans promos and the physicality leading up to the bouts. If anything, this years SummerSlam will be remembered for years only because of the main event the way it is supposed to be.
