5 reasons WWE should push the Charlotte-Paige feud

Like her father, Charlotte uses submissions to gain leverage and victories.

Charlotte and Paige certainly have a history. On Monday night, the Divas Revolution took a turn as Paige decided to rail against new champion Charlotte, who had previously been her teammate on Team PCB. Paige called the daughter of Ric Flair a placeholder who only got attention because of who her father was and proceeded to tear down the entire division. While some may not have been expected this change of attitude from Paige, it is coming at just the right time, and here’s a few reasons why the writers need to push this feud as a priority storyline going forward.

#1 Help Charlotte

Like her father, Charlotte uses submissions to gain leverage and victories.

Charlotte taking the Divas title from Nikki Bella marked a big moment for a changing division, and that mantle is going to be a lofty one for her to carry right now.

Charlotte has the pedigree and talent, but she is still known as being pretty inexperienced in the ring. While Paige is still fairly young, she’s become one of the best female workers on the roster and can make sure that Charlotte looks just as strong as the WWE women need her to be while putting on a good match herself.

#2 Paige\'s charisma

Paige’s battles with AJ Lee were entertaining before Lee left the company.

Divas feuds have been known to be stale because, for whatever reason, some of the female stars just aren’t as compelling from a character standpoint. That isn’t the case with Paige, whose character is always a strong suit.

The English star can work a microphone, either as a face looking for support or as a heel who has decided to upstage the champion. That will give Charlotte material to work with and make this feud something more than a weekly chance to leave the room for a snack or bathroom break.

#3 Emphasis on wrestling

An infusion of NXT women brought a new brand of wrestling.

For years, the WWE’s Divas division has drawn criticism for being more about eye candy than actual in-ring talent. That is beginning to change with the recent infusion of talent from NXT – Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch – but the champion was still Nikki Bella until Sunday. Nikki is better than she gets credit for but was still seen as a symbol of the old Divas mindset.

Not that Charlotte and Paige are unattractive hulks, but both are known as capable wrestlers with complete movesets, and they’ll bring back some credibility to the competitive style of the division.

#4 Fresh ideas

Nikki Bella recently became the WWE’s longest-reigning Divas champion.

As Nikki Bella held the Divas title for a record length of time, the stories surrounding the division became more and more overplaye. By the time the NXT women came up earlier this year, the title scene had become a flip-flop act between Naomi and Paige as No. 1 contenders who would lose to Nikki after heel tactics prevailed.

With Paige challenging her former ally for the belt, the door is wide open for more variety, both in title matches and even Divas undercard bouts, something that hasn’t really been a factor for some time now.

#5 Make the belt relavent

The Divas title has not held the same prestige as men’s belts.

Whether because of the design or even the name of the division, the Divas championship is not held in near the same regard as any of the men’s belts. While Paige and Charlotte can’t get rid of the belt or the name, they can put on matches that will excite fans and draw serious attention to the division.

Women’s matches may never reach the status of those that are held for the World Heavyweight Championship or the Intercontinental title, but the women can strive to be taken seriously as competitors. Paige and Charlotte can help take them there.
