5 Superstars that John Cena should face before he retires

John Cena is a wrestler who always manages to spark a debate or two whenever he becomes a discussion topic. He has been the backbone of WWE programming for more than a decade and despite the reaction he gets from Arenas, Cena is still the biggest draw that Vince McMahon has. However, around the clock schedules and long travels has started to take a toll on Cena’s body as there are rumors around the block which says that the Cenation leader is working through injury.Standing at the doors of 40s, Cena will be forced to take a lighter schedule from now on and might even have to hang up his boots earlier than expected. Before Cena does that, there are certain superstars that he has to face and here is a look at those names.

#5 Undertaker

Future of the Phenom is still up in the air after his streak ended at WrestleMania. Taker is apparently in a much worse condition that expected but still might have one last match in him which would serve as a fitting farewell for him.

Most of the fans wanted to see Cena go up against the streak but that possibility is taken out of the equation. This however doesn’t mean that the two shouldn’t face anywhere in the future.

A match between Cena and Taker is a big draw at any occasion. Considering how battered Taker is, the match wouldn’t be a technical one but could fit in well as a last encounter for the man who revolutionalised WrestleMania over two decades.

WWE could also help to put Cena over since he would have something to show against the achievements of Lesnar whenever a comparison is made.

#4 KENTA

No matter how famous a superstar is in the United States, it is ridiculously hard for the same superstar to win over the Japanese fans unless he proves himself.

Fans in Japan are used to seeing some hard hitting high octane action in between the ropes which is something that the WWE doesn’t encourage. This might be one of the reasons why Cena hasn’t failed to become a big name in that part of the world.

However, if Cena wants to extend his reach before he retires, one easy thing he could do is to face Kenta. Kenta is considered to be a legend back in Japan and facing someone like that would simply raise Cena’s legacy.

Both superstars might have some highly contrasting in ring style but with the Network in place, it is a big draw internationally.

#3 AJ Styles

Many parallels were drawn between AJ Styles and John Cena when TNA was having a good run before Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan came in to mess things up.

While Cena was the representative of WWE, Styles proved to be the poster boy of Dixie Carter. It would be unfair to make comparisons between the two on popularity level as Styles is nowhere near the Cenation leader on a global scale.

Even if Styles is a great in ring performer who can put over almost any opponent, many fans wouldn’t be excited about him going against Cena.

This is not a big draw like most of the other matches in the list but this is one match that we often dreamed of whenever a prospect of TNA- WWE cross over show passed by.

#2 Sting

Sting’s status with the WWE is one of the longest running dramatic episodes in professional wrestling. One day there will be rumors suggesting that he joined the company while just hours later the opposite would make headlines.

One encouraging thing however for the current fans is that, Sting is closer than ever to joining the WWE. Back in his TNA days, Sting used to be in the ring almost regularly and this isn’t something that the WWE Universe should expect.

Sting is in no condition whatsoever to be booked like that and the WWE creative is not desperate like to have him regularly in the ring as well.

There will only be a few matches that would come out of Sting’s stay in WWE and one of that should be a bout against Cena.

#1 Steve Austin

Cena had once in a life time match against Rock two times at WrestleMania. The idea of that bout was to let the two generations collide since Cena was the face of WWE during the PG era and Rock, a representative of the Attitude.

One another name without which the Attitude Era wouldn’t have been complete is Steve Austin. It was around him that the company built up the entire ‘Attitude’ thing.

Austin’s career was cut short due to one reason or the other and the fans were not allowed to see a match between him and Cena.

The Texas Rattlesnake recently expressed his desire to wrestle one more match in the WWE and the writers should not spend much time looking for his opponent as there is no one better than Cena for that position.
