5 Superstars whom WWE secretly helped with rehabilitation

Hall has had a chequred career

The WWE is undoubtedly one of the biggest, most loved franchises in the world, with millions of fans tuning in religiously everyday to watch their favourite stars lock horns. The wonderful thing about the franchise is that it’s sometimes so authentic that one forgets that the magnificent events happening are nothing but a well written script. However, we mustn’t forget that the wrestlers we look up to like goods are also human beings like us off the camera, and even they are vulnerable to the miseries of life. The common way many superstars deal with these miseries is through prescription drugs which provide just temporary relief before becoming an addiction.Getting out of an addiction isn’t easy, but anything is possible with a little help from ones friends, the WWE being the pal in need in the case of these wrestlers. With that in mind let’s take a look at 5 superstars whom WWE helped with healthcare without public knowledge.

#1 Scott Hall

Hall has had a chequred career

Hall is a WWE legend who’s won some of the franchise’s most prestigious titles as well as being known as one of the founding members of NWO, all this has got him an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, something that Hall is also famous for is his long history of alcohol and drug addiction.

His addiction has led to multiple run ins with the law dating back to 1983 when he was charged with second degree murder after shooting a man in self defence, and hasn’t been able to fully stay out of trouble ever since. Hall’s misery reached its peak in 2010 when he was charged with disorderly conduct for resisting arrest, which led to his firing from TNA.

After the incident he checked into a rehab facility, with his tab being picked up by the WWE, but his battle with alcoholism continues to this day.

#2 Sean Waltman

Waltman was helped by McMahon himself

The Minneapolis born wrestler has been associated with the WWE since the early ‘90s, winning his fair share of titles and is currently a part of their legends program. However, all that fame came at a price and soon found himself addicted to various drugs including hydrocodone, paraphernalia, cocaine and crystal meth.

His addiction took a heavy toll on his personal life and even aroused suicidal tendencies in him. His WWE colleagues Triple H and Vince McMahon helped Waltman get his affairs in order by sending him to rehab, with McMahon paying half the cost due to his friendship with Waltman.

#3 Lex Luger

Luger now helps others prevent addictions

Legendary WWE wrestler Lex Luger, is another superstar who has battled numerous problems. The three time world champion has a long history of drugs and alcoholism, which inadvertently led to him being blamed for the death of his then girlfriend Elizabeth Hulette aka Miss Elizabeth, who was widely known as Randy Savage’s manager, after she was found dead due to an overdose of drugs and vodka.

WWE played a huge part in aiding Luger as he battled with health issues and made him a part of their Wellness Policy in 2011, where he counsels young wrestlers on various topics and gives them advice on what not to do in the sport.

#4 Jake Roberts

Roberts is completley sober today

Aurelian Smith Jr. aka Jake “The Snake” Roberts, famously known for throwing pythons on his downed opponents, is a WWE Hall of Famer and a legend in the franchise. However, like many of his peers, Roberts too was swayed by the power of drugs.

The wrestlers health soon began to decline after his addiction and even stated that he was just waiting to die before being rehabilitated. One of the major factors in his rehabilitation was the aid given to him by WWE who placed their former star into a 14 week rehab program in 2007.

Help from former wrestler Diamond Dallas Page also helped, and today Roberts is completely sober.

#5 Matt Hardy

Hardy has now successfully started a family

Matt Hardy had a memorable stint on WWE, be it when he wrestled solo or as a part of the Hardy Boyz with his brother Jeff. However, all that fame brings unwanted elements, the one in concern this time being drugs.

Hardy’s erratic behaviour led to him being sent home from WWE’s tour of Europe back in 2010 and was soon fired from the franchise. WWE helped the wrestler by paying for his rehab, but things didn’t go smoothly at first with his first facility ejecting him due to improper conduct.

It was the second facility that did the trick, with Hardy now reformed and recently became a father in June after his wife Reby gave birth to a baby named Maxel.
