Seth Rollins: 5 ways the babyface can become the next CM Punk

Seth Rollins
Stand up to the Authority, Seth!!

Can Seth Rollins become the new C M Punk?No matter how much the WWE might try to convince the fans that the exit of CM Punk is just a tiny spoke on the wheel of the entertainment behemoth, each passing day makes the wrestling fans miss the ‘voice of the voiceless’ even more.Given the tepid angles, the Authority overkill and the presence of a sea of part timers, the wrestling fans can’t help looking back to the early 2010s when Punk’s pipebombs ignited renewed interest in the product. Now that Punk is gone and has no plans of a return, can anybody in the WWE possibly replace him?The only man with the mouth and the skillset that can be comparable to Punk is none other than the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. Rollins, who is currently out with an injury, and isn’t expected to be back before Wrestlemania and rumours have been going about that he is going to be a babyface on his return. Can a face Seth Rollins capture the adulation of the fans like Punk did?

#1 Seth Rollins needs to Defy the Authority

Seth Rollins
Stand up to the Authority, Seth!!

One of the main reasons the Raw rating are at a low is because of the Authority angle. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s tendency to hijack a number of Raw segments and almost inevitably get the last word in each has been taxing to watch. Remember how many times Stephanie has slapped a superstar and the guy has done nothing!!!

A major factor that attracted WWE fans to CM Punk is because he has no respect for a dictator. During the promos that he had with Steph and Triple H back in 2011, Punk always had the last word. He is not someone who would stand opposite the Authority keeping mum while they verbally try to run him down.

That is exactly what Rollins can become if he turns face. He will have to break out of the Authority first and in the ensuing promos, Rollins should own Steph and Triple H.

Fans do not want another Superstar gawking while the McMahons walk around owning the ring.

#2 Seth Rollins needs to stop using the Pedigree

The Pedigree has got to go

One of the most inappropriate things about Seth Rollins’ reign as Champion was how he used Triple H’s Pedigree as his finishing manoeuver once his Curb Stomp was banned.

This only succeeded in casting a shadow over Rollins’ individuality and highlighted Triple H’s proclivity to write his own name right smack down in to the WWE’s immediate future. The fans are not going to completely take Rollins seriously as long as he continues to use the Pedigree as his finisher.

Bringing back the Curb Stomp might not be possible, but Rollins is talented enough to think of another finisher – something as unique as Punk’s GTS!!

#3 Rollins needs to stand up for his Shield brethren

Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns vs Dean Ambrose
A reunion on the cards??

One of the most admirable facts about Punk is how he has always stood up for his friends. Whether it is loaning Joey Mercury the money to help him from losing his house or hyping Colt Cabana on national television, Punk has done it all. This tendency to remember his roots has always set Punk apart.

The only roots the WWE fans know of Seth Rollins is his former Shield partners. The sure-win way for a face Rollins to gain traction is to come to the aid of Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose while they are decimated by heels.

A mini reunion of the Shield against Randy Orton during the Fatal Four Way Championship match drew great cheer from the crowd. Imagine what a full-scale reunion might do!!

#4 Put Rollins in an angle concerning Punk

Seth Rollins in the ring
The new Punk will have to stand up for the original

In an interview that was conducted after Punk left the WWE, Rollins was asked what he thought about Punk’s decision. Rollins refused to criticise Punk, even though he was a heel at the time. (It has to be said that the interview was conducted by a non-WWE personnel).

This can be played out as an angle.

Even though the WWE gets frustrated with the ‘CM Punk’ chants that appear randomly during matches, they would excuse the same if it can be used in some way to build up Rollins.

Rollins can object to the Authority tarnishing Punk’s legacy which could lead to a fallout with Triple H and Stephanie and the former Shield member leaving the Authority. Fans would jump to his side as it would lead to the impression that he is standing up for the fans’ hero.

#5 Enter Paul Heyman

Seth Rollins with Paul Heyman
Paul Heyman joining Seth Rollins?

An integral part of the CM Punk brand, at least during his final heel run was none other than Paul Heyman.

Heyman is currently in a tweener role, acting as the advocate of Brock Lesnar and both client and spokesman gets cheered irrespective of whether they act as faces or heels. It is a well known fact that the WWE fans have a soft spot for ‘Paul Heyman guys’, event hough they rejected Ryback and Curtis Axel.

But Seth Rollins has more talent and charisma than the two of them combined and unleashing Heyman as the advocate of Rollins might just make him resemble Punk that much more
