Vince McMahon got kayfabe arrested on RawCops have been used in various WWE angles throughout the years. While it is usually various independent wrestlers playing the part of policemen and people being pretty much aware of this fact, it adds up to the unpredictability and buzz around a wrestling angleThe recent example of Vince McMahon getting arrested on Raw is not the first of its kind and it will definitely not be the last. This list takes a look at the top five instances where cops were called in to extend a wrestling angle.

#5 Goldberg gets arrested for stalking Miss Elizabeth

WCW could not remain in business despite Goldberg’s appeal

January 4,1999 was a pivotal date in the history of the Monday Night Wars. That night would see the TV ratings shift permanently from the side of WCW to WWE and would ultimately result in WCW going out of business.

Put simply, that night saw the infamous ‘Fingerpoke of Doom’, which was only the last of the three dumb things that happened on that night.

The first was what saw the cops being called in as Goldberg was arrested for stalking Miss Elizabeth. Goldberg had lost his unbeaten streak and the WCW title to Kevin Nash by deeply unpopular means at Starrcade and was set to challenge Nash that night.

However, he was taken away to the station and even though the charges were found to be baseless, couldn’t return to the Georgia Dome in time for his match which was supposed to happen two hours later.

The dumb thing about that predicament was that the station was just across the street from the Georgia Dome and not ‘downtown’ as WCW wanted the fans to believe – simply put Goldberg could have crawled from the station and still reached the arena in time.

WCW further shot itself in the foot by giving WWE’s taped results away on air – this time the news that Mick Foley had just won the WWE Championship. Almost immediately, 600,00 people changed the channel from Nitro to Raw to catch the feel good moment.

Finally, Hulk Hogan would replace Goldberg in the title match and ‘Big Sexy’ would drop to the floor after getting poked in the chest by Hogan and concede the title.

Fans would boo the place down and throw stuff in to the ring in disgust. WCW would close down just about two years later after this fateful night.

#4 JBL gets John Cena arrested for vandalism

Poor Cena!!

John Cena would win his first WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 21 against JBL.

In the lead up to the match, Cena would destroy JBL’s prized limousine and the ‘Wrestling God’ would call the cops on Cena. Cena would be cuffed and taken out of the arena, building up fans’ sympathies and solidifying JBL’s reputation as an obnoxious heel.

Cena, who was the United States Champion at the time, would lose the same to JBL’s protege Orlando Jordan. But the then ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ would eventually prevail in their Wrestlemania match.

#3 Triple H gets arrested for spousal abuse

Kurt Angle and Triple H – not the best of friends

Triple H would enter a feud with Kurt Angle in 2001 due to Angle getting overly friendly with HHH’s wife Stephanie McMahon.

On an episode of Raw where Stephanie would get upset with Chyna hugging Triple H, an argument would ensue between the couple and Angle would come to know that violent noises were coming out from their locker room.

Soon, cops would get hold of Triple H, presumably because Angle filed a spousal abuse complaint on Stephanie’s behalf, without Stephanie being aware of it.

Triple H would be escorted out of the arena and in to the police station downtown (kayfabe).

This would continue the slow leadup towards the Kurt Angle – Triple H rivalry which would see Angle decimate the Game with Hunter’s own sledgehammer and kiss his wife.

#2 Kane gets arrested for being deranged

Kane driven off the ramp by Shane McMahon in 2003

A loss against Triple H led to Kane losing his mask and brought forward the unstable side of the Big Red monster. He would go on to choke slam the two co-general managers of Raw at the time, StoneCold and Eric Bischoff as well as his tag team partner Rob Van Dam.

The ensuing weeks, Kane would set J.R on fire and would tombstone Linda McMahon on the steel ramp. All these led to Kane being brought to the ring chained in the following weeks, surrounded by cops (kayfabe) during his rivalry with Shane McMahon.

The brutal lead up to the two matches that they had would see Kane being kicked to a burning platform, stuffed in a limo as it crashed against a trailer and Shane’s testicles getting electrocuted.

The Kane of 2003 seems light years away from the current watered down version and it is a shame that he never won the WWE Championship during that time period.

#1 The Undertaker gets arrested for assault

Undertaker beat HHH at WM 17

In the lead up to their first of three matches at WrestleManias – way back in 2001 – The Undertaker and Triple H came to blows in an episode of Raw. Taker was kayfabe arrested on the night after dismantling a limousine supposedly belonging to Triple H and also for physically assaulting police officers in the ring.

Taker was back the next week, though – only to be slapped with a restraining order preventing him from coming within 25 feet of Triple H’s wife Stephanie McMahon.

However, Taker would instruct his brother Kane to kidnap Stephanie and the Big Red Monster would hoist the daughter of the boss atop a ceiling till Commissioner William Regal agreed to make Taker’s match with Triple H official at Wrestlemania 17.

Undertaker would go on to beat Triple H at that Wrestlemania, the first of three victories.
