5 WWE Superstars who desperately need a new finisher

Dean Ambrose’s finisher is a double-underhook DDT known as Dirty Deeds.

Ryback has been criticized for his “Shellshock” finisher at times.A performer’s finishing maneuver is one of the most vital part of a WWE Superstar’s persona. In fact, many legends – Stone Cold Steve Austin, Randy Orton and Ric Flair, to name a few – become synonymous with the moves they use to put away opponents. That makes it particularly troublesome when a wrestler has a bad finisher, one that lacks creativity or one that doesn’t fit within his or character well enough. Here are five such performers along with suggestions for potential moves that could add a spark to their careers.

#5 Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose’s finisher is a double-underhook DDT known as Dirty Deeds.

Oddly enough, Dean Ambrose’s Dirty Deeds – a double-underhook DDT – isn’t even the original move he used under that name. It was originally more similar to The Miz’s Skull-crusing Finale but was turned around early in his singles career.

Either way, Ambrose could stand to add a submission finisher. He doesn’t mind pain and enjoys inflicting it, and he’s shown creativity in submission holds in past matches. Specifically, he could use a hold that could be done around a ring post or using a chair that would make his hardcore-style matches even more interesting.

#4 Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman has used a slam from this position, but not much.

If rumors are true, Braun Strowman – the Wyatt Family’s largest enforcer – has a singles push coming, as he was even said to be a potential opponent for the Undertaker at Wrestlemania at one time. Yet, he doesn’t have a particularly impressive finisher for a big man.

He’s been known to use a single-shoulder slam variation, but that isn’t the norm. Usually, he just puts oppoenents into a bear-hug type choke hold that will work against smaller men but isn’t logical if he’s going to be in main event matches.

#3 Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns knows how to deliver a spear, but he needs something different.

There’s nothing wrong with Roman Reigns’ delivery of his spear finisher; in fact, he might perform the move better than the other wrestlers who have used it. Additionally, the Superman Punch is also an impressive-looking move at times. But Reigns needs more.

Both of those moves are fine, but they essentially come from the same set-up. This makes the end of Reigns’ matches very slow, as he often waits for an opponent to stand up and turn around twice before he goes for the final pin. He could use a Powerbomb variant slam or top-rope move to spice up his move set.

#2 Naomi

Naomi’s “Rearview” finisher shows off athleticism, but not much else.

There are some finishers that could perhaps work in some circumstances, but Naomi’s “Rearview” isn’t one of them. The leaping rear-end shot to a running opponent’s face showcases Naomi’s strengths as an athlete, but that is the move’s only redeeming quality.

Naomi is at least among the Divas division’s most athletic performers, and her repertoire needs a better finale. There are a variety of Bulldog or Neckbreaker versions that could work for her, as well as top rope maneuvers that could also be better than what she’s working with now.

#1 Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio has taken to using his stomp maneuver as a finisher frequently.

In his return to the WWE, Alberto Del Rio has taken the crown as the superstar with the worst finisher, even during his run as the United States champion. While his rolling armbreaker submission hold is fine, the corner stomp move is absolutely awful.

Quite frankly, it doesn’t make sense. Why would his opponent, hung in the tree of woe, pull himself up and stay there to catch a double-foot stomp? Del Rio would be much better suited sticking with the armbreaker or adding some sort of vicious slam.
