7 Things WWE wants us to forget about Roman Reigns

Reigns is horrible on the microphone

WWE wants us to forget some things about ReignsThe career graph of Roman Reigns is an interesting one.He started off as a singles wrestler down in FCW and found some immense amount of success as part of the Shield in NXT and the main roster. He received praise from all over the place and from his Shield days itself; people started tagging him as the next face of WWE.However, when Shield broke up, Reigns received a big push which made the fans turn on him. They started seeing him as John Cena 2.0 and it did not do the Samoan any favors.Reigns did manage to turn around his fortune, but there are certain things that the WWE wants us to forget about Reigns and here is a look at them.

#7 His promos

Reigns is horrible on the microphone

Roman Reigns is a terrible microphone worker, period.

Despite this fact, WWE tried to put him over as a talker. It backfired on an array of occasions and Reigns was put under the scanner. All of his promos were dissected by the Internet and it created a bad image for Reigns.

Back when he was part of the Shield, Reigns was pushed as a silent muscle. He found great success under the role, but when WWE had him as a singles wrestler, a lot of forced promos came out of the mouth of Reigns.

The silent muscle gimmick was way better and if WWE had used such a gimmick for his singles run, he would’ve been more successful.

#6 His original passion

Wrestling was not his first dream

Wrestling was never the first priority for Roman Reigns.

Despite being born into a wrestling family, Reigns found his calling in football. He wanted to make it big in the sport and did everything in his power to do the same. He made his mark at Georgia Tech but was not drafted.

Reigns later moved to Minnesota Vikings and was released just after a month. Edmonton Eskimos signed him afterwards only to release him soon. This proved to be the final nail in the football dreams of Reigns.

He retired from the sport and decided to take Professional wrestling as a job for earning his bread.

#5 Leakee

Not a great name for a wrestler

Professional wrestlers often have some forgettable things from their training days and Reigns was no different.

The name Roman Reigns has a ring to it. It is a marketable name and it does not sound funny when we say it. But the FCW days of Reigns was different. He worked under the ring name ‘Leakee’ – a name which does not suit a superstar who wants to be the face of WWE.

He initially started wrestling under the name Joe Anoai and also worked under the name ‘Roman Leakee’ as well before settling down to the name that he currently uses.

#4 Three losses in a row

Clearly not a good start

Reigns started his wrestling career in Florida Championship Wrestling.

Without no exposure to the independent scene, Reigns was directly injected into the WWE developmental territory. FCW was in no mood to push him during the early goings as Reigns made his debut against Richie Steamboat and lost cleanly.

In his second match, Reigns lost to Idol Stevens – better known as Damien Sandow. Reigns then suffered his third straight loss in a row when he lost to Wes Brisco. His first win then came against Fahd Rakman, but if FCW had booked him to lose his first three matches, it shows how green he was at that time.

#3 No, Rock is not his cousin

Not cousins

We usually refer Rock and Reigns as cousins, but in reality, there is not blood relation between the two superstars.

The grandfathers of Rock and Reigns were blood brothers and this formed a bond between the Anoa’I family of Reigns and the Maivia family of Rock.

Despite not being ‘real’ cousins, WWE is still pushing the idea. Their aim is to make Reigns look good with the help of Rock, but so far, the concept has been a failure. Another thing WWE would want us to forget about the family of Reigns is that Rosey is his brother.

The characters simply do not gel and these two sharing the same screen would be unimaginable.

#2 He was not supposed to be in the Shield

Chris Hero was supposed to be in Shield

As mentioned earlier, the Shield has a huge part in the success story of Roman Reigns. He flourished when he was part of the stable and it helped him to be under the limelight. However, Reigns was not initially supposed to be in the Shield.

The idea of such a stable poked up in the head of CM Punk. He wanted Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Chris Hero as the three men. Hero, however, was rejected by Triple H.

Hunter wanted Reigns instead and if it was not for the recommendation of Triple H, Reigns wouldn’t have been here. A whole career built on a recommendation – not a good thing to show off.

#1 His 2015 Royal Rumble win

2015 was supposed to be his year

The 2015 Royal Rumble match was supposed to be a big thing for Reigns. If it wasn’t for the returning Daniel Bryan, Reigns would have been a fan favorite to win the bout. However, since there was Bryan, the fans started seeing Reigns as a corporate replacement for the flying goat.

Reigns did go on to win the match, but the reaction he received was completely opposite to what WWE expected. The Philadelphia crowd booed him big time and even the presence of the great Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was not enough to save Reigns. ‘

The Royal Rumble of 2015 is clearly something that WWE would want us to forget about Reigns.
