Booking Brock Lesnar after Hell in a Cell

Lesnar’s unceratin future is filled with promising possibilitiesThe hardest part of having Brock Lesnar on WWE’s active roster is deciding how to book a performer who is clearly bigger and better than anyone one else at the circus.How can you take some with his size, speed and ability and realistically think his opponent will stand in a ring as his equal. I think I’ll leave that one right there and let it simmer.The idea of Lesnar in a program with Seth Rollins for the WWE World Title worked because the belt was rightfully Lesnar’s to win. Had it been more of a squash match – where the former champion annihilated Rollins in a squash match, there would have been more believability in the invincibility of Lesnar, The Beast Incarnate.Professional wrestling has gotten away from the idea of a champion who dominates everyone. And Lesnar might still win titles and run through the roster, but his impact would not be as great.You can believe that!“The WWE desperately needs to inject some life into Lesnar and make him an unpredictable force of nature who has the potential to do literally anything when he shows up. That way, when it’s announced that he’s set to make an appearance on Raw or a Network special, viewers will feel compelled to watch rather than being left expecting more of the same,” the online article added.No matter how he is booked – as a heel or a face champion, fans love the man who took a ride down to Suplex City.If WWE is going to use Lesnar more effectively after his program with Undertaker at Hell in a Cell, there has to be the right balance in finding feuds that make sense. Here are five wrestlers who should be considered as options when Lesnar gets back in the ring.

#1 Cesaro

Lesnar and Cesaro have the potential to put on a pound for pound classic

The Swiss superstar is the strongest wrestler on WWE’s roster and presents a solid matchup for Lesnar. How will the throwback performer deal with Lesnar’s power?

If WWE – most notably Vince McMahon, would get over the idea of Cesaro being boring and someone who cannot sell, this would be the match I wanted to see.

Dory Funk Jr., was a former NWA World Champion, but was also a very monotone and boring performer. So was Billy Robinson and to some degree, Bruno Sammartino. Cesaro has looked solid in programs with John Cena and Kevin Owens. This could also lead to a potential title shot for the former United States Champion.

Make this happen, see what happens. The script can always be rewritten. It usually is.

#2 Seth Rollins

The most predictable match up

Of all the potential candidates to face Lesnar, Rollins would be the easiest to predict since he has the belt Lesnar never lost.

But…

Rollins is also the smallest and least exciting matchup. The fans would not get behind this kind of a program again, mainly because it was messed up from the beginning. And to be honest, there is too much confusion in how Rollins is booked right now.

The Kane angle is fresh, not a fan favorite. The ties he has to the Authority right now are strained and there are other wrestlers who could steal the show if they wanted to (Sheamus and the Money in the Bank contract). This is the kind of program that works if Lesnar squashes him, much like he did with John Cena and easily beat Undertaker at WrestleMania.

It’s a scenario that should be used only if all other opponents have been exhausted.

#3 Kevin Owens

Owens talked back in July about how he wanted to work a program with Lesnar in the future. As the former NXT Champion, Owens was the closest thing to Lesnar at the time. A program with the current beast of WWE and the future beast of WWE works wonders for a new year in the company,

As Owens said in an interview back in July, it is something he thinks about and thought about since he was a youngster.

“I was there the night he made his debut on Raw for WWE. I was in the crowd, like the fifth row. I remember being blown away immediately by this guy, I was on board right away. I bought Brock Lesnar T-shirts and Brock Lesnar hats. My parents got a dog that summer, I named him Brock.”

The beauty in this kind of a program also means corporate could decide for Lesnar to play the heel role and put Owens over as the new face of WWE – should they need to finally move on from John Cena and Vince McMahon finally gives up on the idea of making Roman Reigns the future of his circus.

#4 Roman Reigns

The continuation of the war?

No wrestler in the company has had the roller coaster year that Reigns has had, unless you consider Daniel Bryan’s partial appearances the worst thing that has happened to WWE in 2015.

Reigns got screwed out of winning the WWE World Title at WrestleMania, a spot the company never gave a thought to Reigns walking into a program with Seth Rollins. The thought always was for Lesnar to go after his title, and then as we all know what happened with the Undertaker.

There have been some rumors about the two beasts meeting again at WrestleMania 32 and a continuation of the war that never happened.

Reigns may be the wrestler who can match Lesnar with size and power. Again, how will the fan base accepts Reigns in this kind of matchup tells you if he will ever be a WWE World Champion.

#5 Samoa Joe

Will the WWE make it happen?

About a year ago, I spoke about a Joe- Lesnar confrontation if the TNA star ever made the jump to WWE. Now, it appears my projection could at some point become a reality.

Joe is sleek, agile and strong and presents a challenge with submission holds for Lesnar.

What happens now is really dependent on WWE and its booking committee. Joe is still a mainstay in NXT and it is only a matter of time before he gets his call up to the big leagues. Who he challenges is not known right now, but could he be part of an Owens-like scenario where he talks The Beast first in his debut?

Owens and John Cena was as impressive as any debut ever in WWE. This kind of program could be even better. It might also lead to a Joe-Owens feud in the future at WrestleMania.
