Five most offensive fields set in international cricket

The most offensive or aggressive field are set up when you want to save a single or when a bowler is on hat-trick or when you are very close to victory. The term is used to describe the fielding when all the 9 fielders are in close positions is an “umbrella field”. In old times, these were common but today it is seen rarely. Let us look at some of the offensive field setups

#1 Dennis Lillee vs New Zealand in 1976-77

Australia were going for an easy win. When No. 11 Peter Petherick came out to bat, Chappell set up a 9 slips.

#2 Damien Fleming vs Zimbawe in 1999-2000

Steve Waugh is credited to be the first captain to employ the “umbrella fielding” in ODIs. The match was almost won by Australia and tailenders were batting at this time.

#3 Adam Voges vs India in a T20I in 2007-08

Another AustralianMichael Clarke called all his fielders close to the bat when Ishant Sharma was batting. India had almost lost the match till this time.

#4 Bodyline in the 1932-33 Ashes

The infamous tactics of bodyline bowling had most of the fielders on the leg side and close to bat. England captain Douglas Jardine made this tactic during the 1932-33 Ashes and was implemented by his bowlers.

#5 Kane Williamson vs England in 2013-14

Matt Prior saved a Test for England against New Zealand in 2014. New Zealand captain designed a very special type of field in the last overs of the match , but to no avail in the end.
