Five premier league players who could move in the January transfer window

Not often major moves can be witnessed in the January window as clubs do not want to spoil the rhythm of the team by either letting their players leave or sign new players in the middle of the season.Even if any club decides to make a business in the window, they often do it for the short term by buying players who are not able to get regular first team football, to help them achieve their targets in the second half of the season. Not many headline signings are often made in the winter window. But, in the recent few seasons, the Premier League has been very active in the market with players like Juan Mata, Andy Carrol and Fernando Torres all moving in the January window for big money. So let us look at the five premier league players who could move in the transfer window if a right offer arrives:

#1 Petr Cech - Chelsea

Since signing for Chelsea from Rennes in 2004, Cech has been the first choice for the Blues with his impressive performances. The Czech international has won three Premier League titles and was also in goal for both the Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in 2012 and the Europa League triumph against Benfica a year later.

Not long ago, he was recognized by many as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he was considered as an immovable force in the Blues starting line-up. Now things have changed and Cech has lost his place in the starting line-up for no fault of his own.

After Thibaut Courtois impressed with Atletico Madrid during his previous two loan spells, Jose Mourinho decided to bring the player back to the club. Hence, Cech was dropped to fit the Belgian in the starting line up.

Cech has made no secret of his displeasure at playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois in the Chelsea lineup this season. So it is unclear whether he will remain with the club beyond January. However, Mourinho will wish for him to stay since he has no cover in that position as the third choice keeper Mark Schwarzer joined Leicester earlier in the window.

#2 Saido Berahino - West Bromwich Albion

Berahino is one of the hottest young prospects in England right now. The 21-year-old English international has enjoyed a fantastic first half of the season, during which he has scored 14 goals in all competition. Of which, 9 were scored in the league.

But his refusal to celebrate any of his four goals in the 7-0 win over Gateshead in the FA Cup last week didn't go down well at the Hawthorns. It has increased the speculation of him moving away from the club in the window.

Throughout the season, he has been linked with a move away from Hawthorns. After his recent impressive performances when he scored five goals (four against Gateshead and the one against Hull City which gave Tony Pulis a victory on his debut) in the space of a week, the speculation gathered momentum.

Recent rumours have linked him with a move to either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur. Reports however indicate that the player would prefer a move to Anfield ahead of White Hart Lane. A proposed transfer fee in the region of 20 million is however believed to be a stumbling block for his potential suitors.

#3 Moussa Sissoko - Newcastle United

The French International is one of the main reasons for Newcastle to stay in the top half of the table. If not for him Newcastle might have been in the relegation zone currently. He has been the driving force for the club in the middle of the park.

The midfielder is not just about passing the ball from midfield to attackers but, he also carries the ball along with him to create chances for his teammates. He has so far created 22 chances and has managed to score a couple of goals in the league.

The 25-year-old has been named the Premier League’s fastest player after being clocked at 35.3kph against Leicester City. He edges second placed Zaha, who was clocked at 35.2kph for Crystal Palace against Stoke City.

With Newcastle currently struggling without a manager, he is understandably being linked with a move away from St James’ Park. PSG are looking to raid Newcastle again for one of their prized assets after capturing Yohan Cabaye last January from the Toon.

Arsenal are also said to be monitoring the situation surrounding him. Newcastle have shown in the past that they are not afraid to let their star players leave, provided they cash in on the right amount. Its up to PSG or any other club to match Newcastle's valuation of a figure just over 20 million.

#4 Fabian Delph - Aston Villa

Aston Villa in recent years are known to produce good English talents for the country after Gabriel Agbonlahor and former Aston Villa player Ashley Young enjoyed a good run with the national team. The 25-year-old midfielder is the latest player to cement a regular place in Roy Hodgson's England set up.

Delph can play anywhere in the midfield position. He can play as the number six (defensive midfielder) or number eight (central midfielder). He is an enigmatic midfielder who is good with the ball. He also offers good protection to his centre backs by sitting in front of them.

His good performances in the last couple of seasons though has attracted interest from various clubs. With Steven Gerrard bound for MLS in July, Brendan Rodgers has reportedly identified Delph has the man to replace the Liverpool legend in the team.

With Inter Milan linked with a move for Lucas Leiva, Rodgers could shift the Brazilian and make a move to snap up Delph in January for as cheap as 7.5 million, since the player will be out of contract in June.

Also, Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in the midfielder. With Mousa Dembele's future in question marks, Spurs identify Delph as the man to replace him.

#5 Winston Reid - West Ham United

Winston Reid

Winston Reid has played a crucial role in West Ham United enjoying a dream campaign under Sam Allardyce this time around. The 26-year-old New Zealand captain is quick, strong and is confident when it comes to reading the game and bringing the ball out of defence. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league this campaign.

Reid has won 75 percent of his tackles this season and has made the third-most clearances in the Premier League (186). Of those, 115 were headed clearances. He has featured in 22 of West Ham’s 29 clean sheets over the past three seasons.

With the 26-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the current season, he has attracted a lot of interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. Arsenal in particular have been a step above their rivals to secure the services of the centre half.

Various reports also have indicated that Arsene Wenger, has sent scouts to every West Ham game since November to watch the New Zealand international. Big Sam is said to have lost patience with the centre backs reluctance to extend his contract beyond June, hence he is prepared to let him go in January for some money rather than allowing him to leave for nothing in the summer.
