Edge and Lita during the WWE RAW Live Sex Celebration

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has done it all in WWE. He came in as a young star with all the ability in the world, but almost didn’t get an opportunity if it wasn’t for a certain bit of luck. He then went on to win several championships with his best friend Christian as well as on his own.We all know Edge was successful, but there is a lot of things that Edge did or was part of that few people actually know about him. He made history and set records. He was controversial and had luck to help him in certain times when he may have never gotten an opportunity. Edge is now retired from the WWE and is acting in major shows like The Flash. However, we felt that Edge was too cool to not tell people about. So we compiled a list of the top five things you probably didn’t know about The Rated R Superstar. Enjoy!

#1 He cheated on his second wife with Lita

Edge and Lita during the WWE RAW Live Sex Celebration

As many people know by now, Edge and Lita had a thing about ten years ago. Lita cheated on Matt Hardy with Edge while Hardy was out with an injury. Lita and Edge, always being friends due to the closeness of the Hardys and E&C, got to see a lot of each other alone quite often.

What you may not know was that Edge was actually married at this time to a woman named Lisa Ortiz. Before this, he was married to Val Venis’ sister Alanah Morley. The marriage only lasted a few years before he got divorced. He then managed to get married again, this time to Ms. Ortiz in 2004.

Weirdly enough, it wasn’t too long after that Edge ended up in a secret affair with Lita.

Once the relationship of Edge and Lita went public, Lisa Ortiz would then go on Matt Hardy’s website at the time and blast both Edge and Lita over the situation. If you recall, Hardy was using social media and the internet as a whole to blast Lita and Edge quite often. So it made all the sense in the world for Hardy to allow Edge’s wife to come on.

Of course, the love triangle with Edge, Hardy, and Lita was one of the biggest stories WWE has ever had. It was mainly due to the real life events playing out on television.

At the time, it might have been THE biggest story in the WWE. Weirdly through it all, Edge actually was cheating on his wife. So Lita wasn’t the only cheater between them. It is something very few people know about the Rated R Superstar. Interestingly, this fact was never used in the angle on WWE programming. In fact, few people knew Edge was even married twice before.

#2 WWE paid him $210 a week to wrestle

Edge and Christian as guest hosts on WWE RAW

Edge was always an impressive specimen as a performer, the problem is that WWE didn’t always know it. Young Edge had to eventually be seen by the right person at the right time. That seemed to happen in 1995 when Bret Hart’s manager at the time, Carl De Marco, saw Edge in action at an event in Ajax, Ontario.

De Marco met with Edge and told him to send an audition tape to WWE, which he did. Sadly for Edge, he never heard back from WWE. This all changed when De Marco just so happened to be appointed to President of WWF Canada.

De Marco ended up putting in a good word for Edge which got Edge an opportunity with WWE. Edge made his initial debut at a WWE house show in Hamilton, Canada. He actually joined WWE and worked without a contract for the meagre sum of $210 a week. While this added up to $840 a month. While it would be good for the time as a part time sum, Edge had to do this and travel which began to add up.

Edge had to pay off college debt, so this was far less than he could work for. So WWE ended up paying off Edge’s $40,000 college debt to help him along. He then was offered a formal contract a little bit of time into his WWE run.

#3 Edge has won the most titles in WWE history

One of Edge’s last appearances on WWE SmackDown before his early retirement

Edge is clearly a successful WWE Superstar, but one thing many may not know is the amount of titles he won with WWE. Edge seemed to hold a championship, trophy, or briefcase most of his career with WWE. Edge was known to be the golden boy of WWE. Despite numerous injuries in his WWE career, he was massively successful.

He is an:11 time World Champion1 time US Champion4 time IC Champion14 Time Tag Team Champion

This counts for 31 Championships total. Edge never had the opportunity to hold the Hardcore, European, or the Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight Titles however. Still though, he is the seventh Grand Slam Champion and fourteenth Triple Crown Champion in WWE history.

Imagine what he could have done if he didn’t have all he injuries. He might still be main eventing PPVs.

#4 One of the two men to ever win a MITB, Royal Rumble, and KOTR match

Edge winning the very first Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 21

Edge was one of the top WWE Superstars of all time, and really was a history maker his entire career. As a tag team performer, he won numerous tag titles with various partners and won even more singles championships. WWE felt that they needed to make him an anchor of the WWE much of the time, so he ended up doing a lot of firsts for WWE similar to people like Shawn Michaels.

Edge always fit as the guy to use in a big position. He was leading WWE SmackDown a large portion of his singles career. When he first started out, his singles career was already blossoming even as a regular tag team performer. So WWE gave him random opportunities quite often which allowed him to make so much history.

One thing you may not know about him though is that he is the only man other than Sheamus in WWE history to have ever won a Money in the Bank, Royal Rumble, and King of The Ring match.

Edge won the very first Money in the Bank in 2005, the Royal Rumble match in 2010, and the King of the Ring in 2001.

#5 He used to be shy

The once shy Edge became one of the best promo artists in WWE history

Edge mentioned in interviews that he always loved wrestling, and he loved the media world. However, he never really liked being on camera or in front of crowds early on. He went to Humber College radio broadcasting to hopefully be involved in that broadcasting world. This was perfect for him because it would allow him to work in media, but he would technically work on his own or with a small group.

It is quite interesting that the Rated R Superstar, who was one of the better promo and character workers ever, was initially a shy guy.

Edge said that he had to work on his shyness after he realised he wanted to be a pro-wrestler. It appears he did just fine with it. Edge performed with WWE for nearly 20 years before he was forced into retirement due to injury. However, Edge has since been with WWE just to do promos or segments here and there.

A man who was once shy actually broke down this wall to become an incredible promo worker, which is actually very cool.
