3 Reasons why losing to Rusev is the best story for Swagger

On Monday Night Raw, which was the go-home show for Wrestlemania, Jack Swagger faced Rusev again. This was all a set for Cena to interrupt later on and work the storyline between him and the Russian as the final build up towards Wrestlemania. Of course, Swagger lost and that was anybody’s guess. Rusev’s momentum would have suffered majorly if he lost a match just days before his clash with a formidable WWE persona such as the likes of Cena. But in the midst of all, there is a little story brewing and that is Swagger’s quest to beat Rusev. Here are three reasons why losing to Rusev is the best thing that has happened to Swagger-

#3 The other streak

If there is any talk of a streak in the WWe right now that is Rusev unbeaten streak. He hasn’t really won all his matches. Technically, he’s been disqualified. But the man hasn’t been pinned or made to submit. At Survior Series, he lost by getting counted out. Again, he wasn’t pinned or made to submit. Cena may be on his way to beat that streak.

But, the first of Rusev’s highly anticipated feuds was with Jack Swagger. The Russian was able to conquer that challenge easily. But yet, Swagger has kept on trying to beat The Bulgarian Brute ever since but to no avail.

This losing streak against the Russian particularly, has given rise to an unlikely story.

#2 Something different

There is a reason why Brock Lesnar beating The Undertaker was such a big deal that it recieved such an overwhelming reaction. They built that streak for 21 years. They built that story for 21 years and that reaction was the biggest payoff.

There was a reason why Lesnar decimating Cena was a big deal. They built Cena for almost 10 years as an invincible force. Beating him clean was the biggest anomaly there was. WWE built that story for years and that mainstream attention and reaction was the payoff.

Now Swagger is no Cena or Taker, but his losing streak is creating its own cult.

So the moment where he finally achieves that victory against the Russian will be a moment to preserve.

Because it’ll be different and unanticipated.

#1 The gimmicks

There is another reason why this story between Swagger and Rusev is sort of compelling.

It isn’t Cena vs Orton #121

Why this story is precisely working, is because Creative has done a good job of building both Rusev’s and Swagger’s gimmicks. They are apt opponents for each other. There is no one built up to be a ‘Real American’ as Jack Swagger, many thanks to Zeb Colter. And there is no Russian, built as the foreign villain in recent times as Rusev.

That’s why whenever they clash, it’s going to make sense.
