3 Reasons why the Cena vs Rusev match at Fast Lane doesn't need the US Title

The stage has been set for a match between John Cena and Rusev at the new Fast Lane PPV this month. It is a match in which Rusev’s undefeated streak and John Cena’s undisputed legacy are at stake. The story unwinds well until this point. This Monday night on RAW, it was announced that Cena will be competing against Rusev at Fast Lane for the US Championship. RAW started with a confrontation between Cena and Rusev and John Cena took out Rusev and he has been projected as extremely irate and fury personified.John Cena conquering the streak of Rusev is always good for the business but bringing the US title into the equation has some negative ramifications. Let us take a look at some consequences.

#1 Lowering the bar

Cena is a 15-time World Champion. In the past 7-8 years, Cena’s name has always been among the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship contender lists. In the last PPV Royal Rumble also, Cena was a part of the WWE WHC match.

Rusev may be undefeated till now, but he certainly is a mid-carder. He held on to the US title for a good number of days. Nonetheless, projecting Cena into the US title scene will certainly lower his bar. The WWE Universe certainly would not like to see Cena holding the US title.

#2 Cena should lose it back to someone

Assuming that Cena has won the title by beating Rusev and ending his undefeated streak, the next question is ‘Who will win it back from Cena?’ If that would be a WrestleMania rematch and Rusev earns the title back, then what is the point in giving a US title shot to Cena now?

Had it not been for Rusev, then the Universe would not like to see Cena lose to any other mid-carder like Ziggler, The Miz or any other superstar. The creative team also cannot bring someone like Randy Orton or a Roman Reigns into the US title picture scenario.

#3 Cenas position after Lesnar quits

There are widespread rumours that Brock Lesnar quits the business after he loses the WWE WHC title. If that happens, Cena should be back in the title scene. He should join Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and some others. Cena is on a hunt for his record 16th World Championship victory. The WWE team would certainly give this opportunity to Cena, the man who has been the face of the company for the past 10 years.

So, if Cena is involved in tussles with mid-carders for the mid level titles, it would not be appealing for the WWE Universe to see him back in the title scene.

#4 Final thoughts

Many have raised their displeasure when Sheamus won the US title last year. It was a strategic mistake. There is really no point in bringing Sheamus into the US Championship brawl back then. He lost it to Rusev.

The situation at hand really makes things problematic. Nobody can possibly expect Rusev winning over Cena at Fast Lane. Rusev’s victory over Sheamus was a shocker to many but that won’t be the case with Cena.

You have issues with Cena winning t Fast Lane!

You have problems with Rusev winning at Fast Lane!!

Had it not been for the US title, things would have been much better but the creative team thought otherwise. Let’s see what happens after Fast Lane!!
