If there was no NXT, nobody except the powers that be in the WWE would know when the audience would get to see a good divas match. It was only a few years ago when the womens division was completely overshadowed by rusty in-ring performers who were predominantly models with no wrestling training or background. So much so that the likes of Beth Phoenix and Natalya were losing to them in blink and miss matches. But, the women’s divison has had some legendary moments and have constantly in the past made a good case of being at par with the men in this hypermasculine industry. At NXT, the women work matches that may well go down in consideration of the Match of the Year. Here are 5 best Diva matches that a non-wrestling fan will enjoy-

#5 Chyna Vs Lita- Judgement Day 2001

Even if you don’t know who Chyna was and even if WWE goes to lengths of waxing her existence away, just look at Chyna and then look at Lita. Both of them had distinct looks and a strong screen presence. Chyna was burly compared to the whole women’s division in the WWE. Lita wasn’t your typical blonde, tanned eye candy. She embodied the cool factor.

And this may very well look like David Vs Goliath and you just want Lita to win. In retrospect, she doesn’t get much offence in but this match still grabs your attention because you just feel that she might just pull of a win.

Lita lost and eventually Chyna left the company.

#4 Lita Vs Trish- Unforgiven 2006

This was Trish Stratus’ last match and it was in her hometown. But the non- wrestling fan doesn’t have to know that necessarily. The moment Stratus steps into the arena following her entrance theme is what should make anyone take notice and pay attention. The crowd was really into this match giving Trish Stratus, probably the biggest reaction ever in her career. The emotions that were on display by her in the beginning and in the end of this match made it seem all the more special.

This match, needless to say, another classic, a well- worked match. Lita was the perfect heel with not even a soul cheering for her and Stratus was the glorious babyface.

#3 Alundra Blayze Vs Bull Nakano

This one’s a classic. It’s got none of the look that the women’s division had after it became to be known as the Divas Division. These two looked like legitimate wrestlers and not eye candies. And just when you think this is an old match with not so much fanfare, think again.

Bull Nakano arguably is one of the most distinct looking woman wrestler ever, with her dyed hair and face paint. She’s also a great wrestler and so was Blayze.

You don’t really have to know anything about their background to like this match. Nakano pulls Blayze’s hair and tosses her over the other side of the ring and you just feel the impact when she falls.

Nakano lost this match but nonetheless it’s a legendary match which anyone can enjoy.

#2 Charlotte Vs Sasha Banks - NXT Takeover - R Evolution

Thank goodness for NXT!

No other diva has shown as much of a drastic improvement as Charlotte and there is no other woman who’s a complete all rounder like Sasha Banks. These two collided at the best WWE show last year and delivered one of the match of the night and the entire year. Both of them had a certain loyal following in the audience and all the wrestling moves, antics and crowd chants culminated to make this match special.

This may just make a non- wrestling fan, a wrestling fan.

#1 Trish Stratus Vs Lita

Another classic, only this time it happens to be the most famous and possibly the most relevant women’s match in WWE history. Two women were trusted by the powers that be to end their main show. And it is no ordinary match. J.R. put it succinctly put it- two women put their bodies on the line for the Women’s championship. Lita almost broke her neck again. That was a nasty, nasty suicide dive. A non wrestling fan will know why that move’s called a suicide dive after watching Lita execute it.

Lita won to the delight of her hometown crowd.
