5 Great Superstars who have not won the Royal Rumble

You don’t have to be a sure-shot Hall of Famer to win the Royal Rumble, but if you are a guaranteed Hall of Famer who hasn’t won the Royal Rumble, then that is indeed something worth making a list of.Almost all the big names in the current WWE roster have went on to survive the Rumble, but there are some other greats who have never managed to figure out the winning formula when it comes to the ultimate battle royal in WWE.The decision could’ve been intentional or purely coincidental, but when these superstars get inducted into the Hall of Fame one day, they might have a void space in the Royal Rumble category. So here is a rundown on such names that haven’t won the Royal Rumble.

#5 Chris Jericho

The human highlight reel boasts about being the best in the world at what he does but Jericho is yet to win the Royal Rumble. Modern fans will know Jericho as a part timer who comes along every now and then but everyone else would know him better.

He is actually one of the most travelled wrestlers in the business right now and even defeated Stone Cold and Rock in one night. He came closest to winning in 2012 but was eliminated by Sheamus making Jericho settle for the second place.

There are no hints on whether Jericho would appear or not in the Rumble this year but even if he does, he is unlikely to win the match and go on to face Lesnar at the WrestleMania main event.

#4 Randy Savage

The Macho Man Randy Savage is one of the most notable exclusions from Hall of Fame and apparently that is not the only forgettable part about his career. He had the fame to stand toe to toe with Hulk Hogan back in the 90s, but even that didn’t get Savage a Rumble win.

1993 saw one of the most embarrassing outings for Savage at the Rumble when he was thrown out of the match by the eventual winner Yokozuna. And to make matter worse, Yokozuna was lying on his back when he eliminated Savage.

In 1992 also Savage had a similar faith when he jumped out of the ring to eliminate himself after he wanted to take out Jake Roberts. At the end of the day, Savage never won a Rumble and that’s the bottom line.

#3 Mick Foley

No; not beating Chris Jericho is not the only black mark in Mick Foley’s career. The Hardcore Legend is yet to be the lone survivor in the Royal Rumble. Foley did main event WrestleMania at one point of his career, but he never took the Rumble route.

1998 would perhaps be the most memorable year for Foley in the Rumble. He entered the Rumble with all three of his gimmick. Foley was in the final four that year as well and was eliminated by Steve Austin in the end.

Foley now makes occasional appearances here and there at the Rumble and the chances of him winning in such a situation aren’t pretty since he is retired from regular competition.

#2 Kurt Angle

Despite spending a good portion of his career in the WWE, Angle still hasn’t won the Royal Rumble. The Olympic gold medalist was a runner-up back in 2002 where he lost out to Triple H.

In Angle’s defense, he hasn’t been a regular in the Rumble matches.

He often makes it into the match card, but the majority of those would be for defending or challenging for some kind of championship. If it wasn’t for his run in TNA, maybe Angle wouldn’t have been in the list but since things turned out to be the way it is, Angle never won it.

He recently made his in-ring return in TNA which is a bad sign for his Rumble dreams but then again, never say never, it is the wrestling business.

#1 CM Punk

Punk’s last match for WWE came at the Royal Rumble where he was eliminated abruptly by Kane. It certainly played a big role in his exit from the company and Punk had all the right to be angry considering he never won the Rumble despite being a main event star for so long.

The straight edge superstar appeared on the Rumble on six different occasions starting from 2007. He also had two championship matches in the pay-per-view apart from the Rumble.

2014 was the only occasion where he reached the final four which underlines that Royal Rumble was never his strong suit. So if Punk ever returns to the programming again, he would certainly want to get this achievement on his resume.
