Ranking the 5 best Wrestlemania matches of Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho is well renowned as one of the most charismatic performers of all time and also one of best professional wrestlers to ever step foot in the WWE as well.Every time Wrestlemania rolls around, everyone is looking to give it their all and outperform each other. The same goes for the best in the world at what he does, Chris Jericho. Let’s take a look now at 5 of Jericho’s greatest Wrestlemania performances of all time and rank them from worst to best.

#5 Chris Jericho v Triple H (Wrestlemania 18)

This was a solid match up that saw Jericho with Stephanie McMahon in his corner, defend his Undisputed Championship against Triple H. The bout was very good but there were a few slight problems that hampered it from becoming great.

Firstly, they went on last and had to follow the electrifying match between The Rock and Hulk Hogan that had already drained all of the fans emotion.

Secondly, as far as Jericho’s performance, this match focused a lot on the tension between Stephanie and the game. Also HHH eventually won the match with a single pedigree.

This match was perfectly fine but Jericho has had much better.

#4 Chris Jericho v Edge (Wrestlemania 26)

Edge had just returned from a serious injury to win the Royal Rumble and soon set his sights on the World Heavyweight championship. One obstacle in his way however was the newly crowned champion, Chris Jericho. This epic match was always guaranteed to deliver and it most certainly did.

One problem was a slightly anti-climactic finish. Jericho struck Edge with the championship belt while the referee was distracted but Edge still kicked out. Only moments later Jericho would hit the Codebreaker out of nowhere and score the pinfall to retain his title.

Post-match, Jericho went to attack Edge but he fought back and ultimately hit a devastating spear from the announce table into the time keepers area.

#3 Chris Jericho v Christian (Wrestlemania 20)

A midcard match between two talented in ring performers that exceeded all expectations and could have been even better if given a higher place on the card. Former tag team partners that broke apart when Christian attacked Trish Stratus.

Jericho and Christian delivered a fantastic bout that was enthralling from start to finish.

The end saw Stratus appear to inadvertently strike Jericho which allowed Christian to steal the victory. Post-match Stratus turned on Jericho, slapping him in the face and allowing Christian to hit the killswitch.

Jericho may have lost the match, but this bout was still amazing and showcased both superstars immense talent.

#2 Chris Jericho v CM Punk (Wrestlemania 28)

In the early stages of his historic title reign, CM Punk faced off against his biggest challenge to date, a returning Chris Jericho.

This soon became a deeply personal feud when Jericho insulted Punk’s family and straight edge status claiming his sister had problems with substance abuse while his father was an alcoholic. The later was actually indeed true but the remarks about his sister were fabricated for storyline purposes.

The match itself was a dream for wrestling purists and provided a number of enthralling counters/close falls.

Another factor that played a major part early on was the stipulation added that even Punk lost via DQ he would still lose the title. Jericho played up to this and Punk came very close to being disqualified on multiple occasions.

Jericho played his heel role perfectly and the match was astonishing, which Punk ended up winning via his submission the Anaconda Vice.

#1 Chris Jericho v Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 19)

Not only is this by far Jericho’s best Wrestlemania match, it is also widely considered by many as one of his greatest bouts of all time. Two incredible, extremely charismatic performers meeting one on one at the show of shows was always sure to deliver and it most certainly did.

This was Michaels first mania match back in WWE for over four years, mixed with a hungry Jericho and this feud had all the ingredients for greatness.

The match was full of fast paced, high action drama along with some showboating from Jericho as he emulated HBK’s mannerisms, even performing his signature superkick to achieve a close two count.

Ultimately, Jericho fell short, losing to Mr Wrestlemania through a roll up of sorts. Following the match Jericho appeared to show some good sportsmanship, embracing Michaels in a hug for a gracious defeat. However he shortly delivered a cheap low blow resorting back to his heelish ways.
