For almost two years, The Authority has stamped its authority on the locker room. They’ve had their failures and successes but they’re still showing a united stance until eventually things fell apart. Slowly but steadily, the balance in their universe is being shaken. Randy Orton and Sting have played a major role in it with Daniel Bryan having done most of the legwork in the past year. Here’s how The Authority’s Road to Wrestlemania is panning out to be.
#1 Journey since 2014
Arguably, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H came out looking like the biggest heel in the company and then the unforeseen happened. Seth Rollins betrayed his brothers to join forces with two-thirds of Evolution after Batista bid farewell following the Payback PPV.
Since then Rollins has been Triple H’s protege in the heel department, even so pushing aside Orton as the rotten apple of The Authority’s eye.
All of this culminated into a spectacular main event at Survivor Series which was preceded by some tremendous momentum shifting towards an Orton heel turn. Orton was pushed aside and The Authority looked set to beat Team Cena. Until a man named Sting showed up.
They left only to come back again. 2014 ended with the end of The Authority’s exile.
#2 Momentum heading into Wrestlemania 31
It’s been shaky so far for the heel group. Sting’s mere aura has been unsettling. The mind games are working.The silence is working. Though, there still needs to be an explanation why Sting is back to fight the man who’s at the helm of The Authority.
The Vigilante’s gimmick has been explained well and his history has been taught for all these weeks. His gimmick has arguably been successful and the match between Triple H and Sting seems to be the most awaited.
Another aspect to The Authority storyline is the burgeoning unsettling energy of Orton joining back The Authority. It is evident that he’ll break away. It’s all taking its own time to burn. Sting has kept Triple H anxious and Orton won’t let Rollins bask in any success.
And Stephanie McMahon is still running over superstars. She may just shift the tide a bit on her team’s side.
#3 What to expect at Wrestlemania 31
Triple H is facing Sting and Rollins may face Orton. Rollins will eventually cash in.It may be at Wrestlemania, it may be on the Raw after Wrestlemania, or it might be way after that. But Triple H is set to lose to Sting in the latter’s first match in the WWE.
And it’s going to be glorious. It’ll be done in a way that the audience feels that The Vigilante, the only ray of hope against core evil, will stay on and come time and again to save the WWE.
#4 Aftermath to WrestleMania 31
The Raw after Wrestlemania will be much more remarkable if Sting makes an appearance and the arena may just go berserk if Undertaker makes an appearance.
And the audience may just figuratively faint with excitement at a dream sequence finally coming true. This may be the early signs of a face off at Wrestlemania 32 between two of the most mystic characters in professional wrestling. Two icons, two of the most legendary characters ever may step into the ring for one last match.
The seeds are expected to be planted.
The Authority, on the other hand, will look at getting back up from the Wrestlemania that was. They might just invest all their resources in getting Seth Rollins to win the biggest prize in the WWE.
Sheamus may return as a heel and that may be significant if he returns as a part of The Authority. He’ll feud with Orton while Rollins sets his eyes on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
#5 Future stock leading to WrestleMania 32
This is tricky. They are the most hated unit in the WWE and having them just fade away out of the screen will be a travesty at this point. Seth Rollins is getting really good as a heel and it’s only fitting that his crowning moment comes with the Authority still being intact and surrounding him.
Every group eventually breaks up and there might be a future match between Triple H and Rollins and this dissent may just lead to Rollins face turn and hence a Shield reunion before or after Wrestlemania 32.
